I did a search and Foster vs Moore did not come up. I suspect it is out there, I doubt I'm the first to bring this up. If you find it, someone either link me or answer my poll or both.

Who would win in a matchup between these two lt. heavies.

Foster was a scintillating knockout puncher - like a light heavy version of a Tommy Hit Man Hearns but to me as a rule his fights would Either be over by round 4 or they'd go very very late and there wasn't much variation - don't see a focused and seasoned Moore being stopped by anyone in 4 rounds - so its either getting the old legs going late or long ranging it on points but Foster dropped decisions to ordinary Folley and got himself stopped by Terrell who was hardly a stoppage artist and by the diminutive but dogged Doug Jones - it wasn't like light heavies didn't put Foster down on occasion - Hank did it and DePaula also dropped Bob - both early I beleive - I think Foster was cute and really boxed well with his long reach and tremendous height but I see Archie having chopped up and broke down bigger and taller heavyweights and having to much physical strength aswell as savvy for Foster to trump him with reach and long jabs and I don't see Moore falling into just the right range for Bob to get the leverage on that left hook - that tended to happen with guys who got a bit reckless and start slugging and trading from just that bit to far out where something was inevitably going to land - Moore would know what to do and when and prove he was better within 11 rounds*

Moore hit like a heavyweight and had the greater skills, Foster was an excellent puncher and a great light heavyweight but Moore would be too heavy handed for him.

This is a great post and great fight !!! The Old Mongoose is damn near the top of all time great lt. heavies... That being said, prime Foster had crippling power ! I have no doubt he could get to Moore and hurt him,but...Could he finish him ??? If Foster doesn`t finish him when he hurts him, Moore roars back and stops him late... I am really conflicted on deciding if Foster could finish Moore... If I HAD to pick, Moore late... Unless Foster clips him Dick Tiger style !!

Could go either way. Moore's chin was serviceable, but certainly not granite.

I'm in the same boat. Foster very definitely has a chance.

I've thought over this one for years and Archie always finds a way to roll through a tough fight and come back for the ko win.

ARCHIE MOORE by a knockout. Considering Moore is one of the great fighters of all
time, it would be difficult to Bob Foster to top Archie.

I think Moore puts him on the back foot by crowding him and takes some of Foster's leverage away...Moore by KO for me.

I'll take more based on his edge in refinement. I think he'd have to overcome some seriously rocky moments, and its not my most confident fantasy pick, but Foster wasn't the most dynamic of boxer-punchers(Like his rhythm and points of leverage), and Moore around his peak was great at making any opponent uncomfortable. Add that BOTH guys a great punchers, and I'll take the guy I think can get to the target the most consistently, and who had the better defense.

It would be a seriously fascinating fight though.

I have thought about this fight for years, and have gone back and forth on it. Both men are crippling punchers, both are smart in the ring. Top quality pros all the way around.
Stylistically I think the first few rounds would be treacherous for Moore. Foster would work that long left hand but Archie has to be careful about trying to get around it, because the left hook is a countering punch and Foster is clever when it comes to disguising it. I think Foster has a big chance early on; to land a big shot while Moore is studying him.
There has been mention above of Moore coming on and chopping Foster down as the fight progresses. Maybe. but Foster is also a sharp, very sharp, right handed puncher, and he digs that left to the body. I think he can maintain his space, and hold his own in a battle of wits.
What I think will play out is a very tactical fight, with the jab of Foster being the key. You ain't beating Moore off a jab, but he'll either get around it and win the fight, or get countered trying and lose. Either way, it goes 15.

    Two dynamite punchers.

I guess it comes down to durability. I could see Archie Moore getting off the canvas to comeback and hurt Foster but I cant say Foster could do the same. I think if/when Moore hurts Bob Foster he could finish him in cleaner fashion. Plus I believe Archie might have been physically stronger.
