They don't seem to have the same infighting skills that they once had. Recently, I've had the impression that there is more clinching as everyone is trying to imitate Floyd and Wlad.
"No old school boxing fans will tell you Boxers were better back in the day and 1. The more grainy the footage of the old school boxers is the better they were 2.the less footage of the boxers there is the better they were 3. Newspaper reports count for more than any other form of evidence on talent" Damn it, now I gotta' agree with Gramsey again. I hate that guy. Go back to talking trollish nonsense. This inconsistency is infuriating.
Just as an example, GGG is considered by many the best middleweight for some time. Would he really be able to hang with the likes of Hagler, Monzon, RJJ, Toney, Prime Hopkins, I could go on all day and there isn't a truly stand out fighter at any weight operating currently except for perhaps Mayweather who would have any chance of making an ATG top ten let alone top ten at their weight. There was far less cherry picking back in the day due to fewer titlists. Fighters fought far more often over 15 rounds with smaller gloves and more lenient refereeing. I consider boxers today more as professional athletes whereas the likes of Duran, Hagler, Marciano, Lamotta etc. we're outright fighters with a real warrior mentality and more desire for the win rather than just their next 10 million pound plus pay check.
You don't believe someone like Roman Gonzalez could one day be seen as a top-10 flyweight? Of course his career isn't over yet, so the final verdict isn't in... but from what I've seen so far, he's well on his way, me thinks!
