Don´t know what is going on, but his management seems to have failed him. Everyone has been signing heavyweights left and right for years now. Especially Top Rank and Marchroom. So I am shocked that no one has picked up this guy.

But it's some kind of co-promotion with Eye of the Tiger management who I think might be splitting with GB, but Mak. will possibly remain.

 

If Golden Boy want to make a splash in the HW division this is their chance.

Nobody wanted to give the Klitschkos a chance either and it was in 2003 (7 years after turning pro) that both brothers got their big chances.

Actually he needs to move on quickly from Golden Boy now. Remember how much Golden Boy did (or didn't do) for Luis Ortiz? And it wasn't as if Luis Ortiz had time on his side when they were together.

Why on earth Ryabinsky hasn't signed Mahkmudov is beyond me. Ryabinsky is a nationalistic chap and Mahkmudov happens to be Russian. Povetkin is finished, and Kuzmin has a couple of Ls now - so it would seem to be a great idea for Andriy to pick this guy up.

 

You'd need a good reason to take this fight. Desperation, probably.

I don't think Forrest or Hammer or Negron or Keane or McKean would take it. Most of these guys are gatekeepers who are still in the game or prospects (Keane, McKean) and this isn't a fight you can really cash out with.

If Makhmudov is fighting with GB - it's going to be a US fight unless they partner with somebody. Hammer, Wach, Dawejko seem like the most likely possibilities to me. I've heard Robert Alfonso is looking at Bridgerweight - if that ever gets off the ground - so he's probably out. Not sure if Teper, Duhaupas, Booker or Dimitrenko are even looking for fights. Lenroy Thomas just took a tuneup-type fight - maybe he's interested in a final payday? Lucas Browne would probably price himself out of this...and why ruin things for an inevitable showdown with McKean?

 

Both got their "big chances" in 2003? That doesn't seem right.

I haven't got Vitali's record in front of me...but I know that Vlad took the WBO title off of Chris Byrd in 2000. 2003? That was the year that Vlad got flattened by Corrie Sanders

 

Another good "next opponent" for Makhmudov would be Iago Kiladze. That would be a useful step up for him.

I'm kind of hoping that fight doesn't happen, though, because Iago is very brave and has paid for his courage with bad stops. He is going to be in serious trouble if he keeps going as he has.
