Yeah he was done. I for one have always maintained Smith is an overrated fighter and puncher who got lucky to win a world title against an injured older George Groves.

While I can't counter your claim that buddy is a poor trainer as I don't know enough, I can say that in the 3 fights I saw C.Smith fight, he has never utilised his range advantage.

Even the training videos before the fight thag were all over youtube were just of smith practicing his tight left hook.

On paper smith should be Beterbievs worse style of opponent. Tall, with range, using a long touching jab and strong right to occupy his high guard and then grabbing beterbiev whenever he got even an inch inside that range.

He was always going to get smashed up. It was just a matter of when they started to wear him down.

That's why I've never rated him very highly. He simply doesn't know how to utilise his height and reach. Just look at his head, he's on the same level of his opposition, despite being far taller, he's literally crouching down to the level of his opponent, he's a 6'3" fighter fighting like he's 5'10".

He doesn't move his head or even fight on the back foot well, meaning his opponents don't really ever have to chase him down because he will go to them. Especially as he doesn't know how to counter punch, so when on the back foot he has zero offence, he can only mount any offence when standing still or moving forward which against Beterbiev is suicide. Hearn making this fight was him basically throwing Smith at a woodchipper it was only ever going to end in carnage.

Beterbiev was patient last night probably because he knew Smith would eventually come to him or stand in front of him too long and give him opportunities he wouldn't need to press or force Smith to open up because Smith would do it himself. It's so frustrating watching fighters like Smith can you imagine if Cus D'Mato decided to make Tyson and elusive out boxer, or if Steward trained Wlad to be a swarmer who fought in the pocket! It ludicrous obviously but here we have fighters at this level fighting in a style that's wrong for them.

Smith curls up in a fetal position vs pressure all the time, regardless of ring size. We saw that with Ryder, we saw that with Canelo, we saw that tonight. It's why I just found everyone picking Callum to be absolutely silly; what did all of you think was going to happen to a guy who wilts under pressure against the hardest-punching pressure fighter in the sport?

Canelo fought at 175 twice. Why wouldn't he try to become undisputed at 175? Because he is a cherry picker.

Agreed it was baffling why anyone would pick Smith but I guess it came down to Beterbiev's age and the fact Yarde did better than many expected and that he had a punchers chance. But stylistically speaking it was always a one sided fight as you say, betting on the chance that Beterbiev might have gotten old or that Smith would get lucky and KO Beterbiev before he got KO'ed was always a long shot.

The ring was very small and Smith sustained a lot of damage early while trapped in the corner. . The ring size didn't allow Arthur to win but it was definitely an advantage for him.
The pressure and tiny ring size made it a nightmare for Smith to try and control the distance. . Not even Bivol could fend off Arthr in a ring that size.

Great, great performance from Beterbiev. He looked much better than he did against Yarde a year ago. The man is a monster.

    Now we ant Beterbiev-Bivol.

If you throw big shots, you can get countered if you miss and overextend. Beterbiev starts fights holding back on some of the power shots, but once he starts getting more comfortable in the fight, or he is in a low risk position for getting countered, he will start throwing the bigger power shots.

Interesting, especially with many sources suggesting Arum has been a blocker to this fight happening for years. But with Bivol saying he has already signed, it won't be a good look for Arum and Beterbiev if they can't get it made - unless Bivol signed something that didn't give Beterbiev a full camp after Ramadan.

So, should we start calling Beterbiev Elmer Fud, for all the rabbit hunting he does? LOL
