He was more affective at 130, but he didnt stay there long enough to establish a legacy to prove that was his dominant weight. If he staid at 130 I think not only would he have a better legacy in boxing but he wouldnt have lost half the fights he did after he went up in weight.
i'd love to meet him, him&micky ward did a few after dinner events over here earlier this year, but i didnt get to go.
I'd say 130 for sure... He was alot more carefully managed at 140. In other words, there was a bit of smoke and mirrors going on with Gatti at 140... He wasn't good enough to beat the best, so he cherry-picked a bit until he had to face FM. Then the truth was clear.
The one where he kept his hands up... wait a second.. But I love Gatti. A warrior, but def best at 130
Hi warrior85 What's this bout like? Did Gatti deserve to lose, or did Solomon get lucky? I've never seen a tape of this guy fight, who apparently quit the sport 1 fight after facing 'Thunder.' I'm just intrigued as to why a guy with such a good pro record should seemingly disappear off the face of the earth with what looked liked a decent career ahead of him. Any info appreciated.
While on the subject of Gatti, who has seen the two bouts against Tracy Harris Patterson? Great fights indeed! For those who haven't, I strongly recommend you do so! On paper, it can be argued Gatti's best weight was 140lbs, but his peak was at 130lbs, although I think he always struggled to make the weight at SFW! He was more effective at 130lbs though! Put it this way, Welter was not his best weight that's beyond dispute!
