   Basketball coaches use the same saying. Never really drew the connection but a defender trying to steal a basketball is in some ways a lot like a boxer throwing a punch. They can sometimes get by with swiping with poor technique--especially against a physically overmatched opponent--but doing so can create balance issues that a more capable opponent will exploit.
