I agree with your post but Martinez should have separted himself from Cintron...not saying a draw was the right call but Martinez is the only one to blame for him not stepping up the heat when he needed to.
It wasn't like Holyfield sucking less than Valuev, but, yeah, Martinez fought down to Cintron's level in a few rounds and can fall into a style that annoys judges - sort of a "I'm not getting hit, so I must be winning the round!" deal. There were quite a few "I gotta tell you, Jim! I don't know how this guy is winning round after round by..." reports from Lederman that night. I'm hoping he can rise dramatically to an opponent's level and then some as well. Being able to simply say it was a draw and leave it at that is a bit arrogant. Just about anyone who's seen that bout has a strong opinion about it! <--- John Ruiz there is just about the only one offering sympathy and a comforting hug to the guy who lost two of the three fights during that bout.
He's also frighteningly slow, and Williams appears faster at middleweight than he did at welterweight by a very noticable amount in my opinion. Not to mention the fact that Williams put a boxing exhibition on Margarito who scored very few meaningful punches, which now have to be in question considering when he actually did hit Paul, (very rarely), it opened a cut. I think Margo was plastered up for that fight too. But it didn't matter, Williams made Margarito look like a stationary target. He put on a boxing display. At 154 Williams is faster, stronger, and slicker. He is turning into a complete fighter. His improvement that he showed in his fight against Winky is pure testament to that. Not to mention the fact that he's not a weak fighter. Against Winky, a middleweight, Paul was the STRONGER fighter. Do you think Angulo will be able to bully Paul around? Angulo will have to constantly reset, and I know Paul is capable of boxing, so Paul will circle him, counter him, and hook and move before Angulo can reset. And when Angulo is moving foward, he's going to be hit with 3 punches before he even gets in a place where he can reach Paul who will be out of the way by the time Angulo sets up. And if Angulo bullies in? Paul will tie him up and make Angulo useless who I don't think is big and strong enough to bully Paul on the inside.
Styles makes fights, and Angulo may just have the right style to beat Paul Williams. If only he can touch that body, I think everything can change. I'd favor Paul, but I would not be certain, Angulo is tough as nails and has proven punching power.
PW beats Angulo and Martinez but I feel Kirkland beats him. Just a big heavy hitter who will come forward at all times. PW's punch rate wont slow him down unless he hurts him. I just think the pressure will be too much for PW.
Except that Kirkland has no boxing ability, is slow as hell in comparison, doesn't move his head, and has a much shorter reach. And I don't see very effective body punching from Kirkland either nor even very good punching technique. To me, he is a crude, face first slugger who incredibly tough and can punch, but even a guy like Margarito is more skilled than him, and that's pretty damn sad.
Sounds great on paper but thats not how it alawys goes does it. Dude has to get in the ring and do it. And Margo is not a skilled fighter. He sucks. But look, he beat someone who is alot more skilled then him in Cotto so that goes to show you that anything can happen.
True, and I hate to say this, but honestly I think Margarito was plastered up for that fight. And I like to watch Margarito, but looking at Cotto's face and a number of Margarito's opponents faces, leads me to believe that the guy is a cheat. I mean, he doesn't even throw his punches with proper technique and he doesn't have speed. How heavy could his hands possibly be?
