the IBF watered the idea of belts down but the correct answer is the creation of the WBO . . . after that every tome dick and harry thought they could create a sanctioning body.

The Ring belt is a step in the right direction though

Pretty much when business became a priority over sport. Mid/late 90's.

this doesnt help either. Get rid of all the Supers and Lights prefix of the weight classes.

Sadly nowadays i consider the WBO more legit than the WBA or WBC who are just joke organisations right now (yes i know they are all bad)

casual fans would be able to keep up a bit more with one champ per division.

The WBO opened the floodgates for the Alphabetti-Spaghetti sanctioning bodies, although actually now they're not the worst of the four main ones (that's the WBA) but they are indirectly responsible for the creation of the WBF, WBU, UBO, GBU, etc, etc.

In the late 80s, early 90s. When I was a kid, everybody knew who the champions were: Hagler, Holmes, Spinks, Duran. By the time I was in college (mid 90s) there were multiple champs in nearly every division.
