Rahman will be the real proof if starting boxing later protects from degenerative brain disease, being as he started boxing at about 17.
This post gets you thinking a bit about this sport. I think there already is a foundation for punch drunk fighters. But imagine if it was better organised. Eg if each organisation of boxing wbo , wba , ibf ect ect made it the rule that even just 5 percent of every single fight went into a foundation which a registered fighter could draw upon if they ended up with no money and worse no money and punch drunk , maybe we wouldnt see once great or decent fighters walking the streets can collection. This will never happen though unfortunatly:-(
That would be good, I believe that fighters should have a pension account setup when they begin boxing professionally. Much like superannuation where a percentage of a person's pay is put into an account and invested for them and accessible on retirement.
Actually he drove off the Vermont Ave on-ramp while trying to get on to the 101 freeway in Los Angeles
However on the other hand , plenty of fighters have finished up with nothing and needn't have alot blow all their money and dont save up lol
I've heard that before, but i find it very suspicious that he shows exactly the symptoms of a brain damaged boxer after a car accident. Not many people are involved in a car accident that causes exactly the same sort of brain damage. A lot of people want to deny the negative effects of boxing.
I said this awhile back. I was reading an article in a magazine and they interviewed Leon Spinks and that guy who beat Hearns twice ( i forget his name) and it was sad reading how these proud fighters ended up in the gutter. Many fighters have limited education and need some protection. I would like to see all international boxers forced to start a fund when turning pro, and that fund run by a world reputable company who take 10% of the purse which pays out a twice annual dividend after retirement.
Bowe, Meldrick. Foreman realy amazes me.. Being a heavy and takeing A LOT of POWER punches in his career and haveing a long ass career, he still speaks so clearly.
Yes, even more so when you compare him to Ali and Frazier...Foreman can come up with some tremendous unintentional humour but he's very clear and quick with his thoughts. And like the others have said - Bill1234, I now feel so guilty for laughing out loud, but your description was so evocative...I keep getting the mental image of Ken flying like Superman through the air, as this single tiny tree on a desolate hillside lies in wait...
mldrcik taylor, quarry brothers, bobby chacon, ali,, fraizer, benitez, riddick bowe, ivan robinson, the young olympian trinidad beat up
The guy who beat hearns twice was iran barkley. I suggest the poster who listed roger mayweather have an MRI or CAT scan for two reasons: 1) roger is an atg????!!!!! Im sure rocky lockridge agrees! 2) all the mayweathers (jeff excepted.) are fruitcakes with minmal iqs and had difficulty speaking even before they ever laced em up.
