Thought I'd make a pre-emptive strike, before Wilder KO's Harrison & then all the haters fall all over themselves claiming that Audley is a total bum. As I recently wrote elsewhere: -------------------------------- Harrison gets a lot of crap around here, I think mostly due to his pathetic showing against Haye. And it WAS pathetic. - But Haye can do that to a fighter. He has the speed to confuse you, and the power to make you hesitant to engage. As much as we all dislike Haye, you have to acknowledge this. Actually look at Harrison's pro career: He lost to Danny Williams, Martin Rogan, and Michael Sprott. Ok that's not good, but then he faced them all again and beat all three of them. He looked bad against Guinn, OK, but any fighter can have a bad night. It happens. His only other losses are against Haye, who most folks consider the #3 or #4 HW in the world, and against David Price who (despite making one stupid mistake against Thompson) really is a great fighter, & still possibly the future champ. On top of that, Harrison has the brass cojones to face Deontay Wilder. Fury won't, Jennings won't. Their a couple of pussies compared to Audley. -------------------------------- So WTF? Why so much hate for the guy? I realize Harrison is too old to make a serious comeback, but jeez the guy deserves a little respect.
He often looks like he is downright afraid of his opponent. He doesn't bring the fight, sometimes it just seems like he is happy with just wasting time, so he won't get punched in the face. He has a lot of bad losses on his record, maybe he has avenged them, but they are still there and he hasn't really beaten any good fighters. He lacks toughness and heart, his career is very average and he could have done more if he had just had the will.
I don't hate him...I wish him well. I'm allowed to have major doubts about him due to what he's done before. I hope he can get past Wilder - he has the boxing skills to do it...but his chin + the fact that Wilder is a banger makes for a scary combination. I really do hope Audley can school Deontay...but i'm really doubtful. We'll see soon enough. Wilder is an unknown quantity. Audley has sparred with him quite a bit so does know what he's getting in with and still feels he can do it so maybe he just might know what he's doing after all...the world waits to see!
So apart from all his shitty losses, his complete freeze on the world stage and his recent inept journeyman form, he's a dead ringer for p4p top 10.
From watching a couple of interviews I found out that he was heartbroken after his Channel 5 contract got revoked/expired. But now he's more determined and thinks his pro career reflects his amateur career in terms of its ups and downs. He won prizefighter x2. Now that the headgears are coming off in the Olympics he couldn't go back? I like Audley... he says a lot of meaningful things in his interviews... very charismatic and can articulate very well. No need for a translator. I wish him all the best and hope he boxes like he never done b4 but GBP picked Audley for a reason. Now that Seth Mitchell got KD'd by Banks... they don't want another HW to go down. Oscar is a puto.
Good win for Wilder imo, Audleys a live dog in this fight definitely a step up from his previous opposition.
We are here again that's the problem For a big man audley has fantastic style and a great left hand He could have been a world champ But he looks scared when fighting and against a big puncher on Saturday I don't know why it will suddenly change
Yes, that's exactly what I wrote. Anyway, I'm really conflicted on this fight. I always root for the an aging fighter who has something to prove. I'd LOVE to see Audley have a few good wins before he retires. But of course, i'm a huge Wilder supporter, and a loss here (not likely) would set him back several years. Well, OK, I'm rooting for Wilder, of course. - But I'm also rooting for Harison to fight aggressively, make it a good test for Wilder, and go out on his sword.
Keep telling your self that, in front of the mirror 3 times in a row, with the lights out! Audley Harrison is NOT that bad! Audley Harrison is NOT that bad! Audley Harrison is NOT that bad! {{{Crackle}}}} the sound of fine china getting shattered!
And Wilder only stepping up now...suggests what his detractors are saying - that he's not that good either! So...!!
