In another post I’ve said no disrespect to Jack Bodell I certainly wouldn’t intend to do that with any fighter. I maintain my point though Jack got ko’d off a fading Cooper in 2 rounds, Quarry in 1 round, Danny McAlinden in 2 rounds, Urtain in 2 rounds the last fight he had prior to the last 3 was beating Joe over 15 rounds. I just think Bugner should have been despatching Jack handily but it was performances like that one which frustrated the fans which was my whole point from the start of the thread. As for the fatality Joe experienced I agree he’s human and ultimately we will never know how it affected him. I used the word passive in an earlier post which was more appropriate than pacifist which I apologise for but it didn’t stop him viciously flattening Allen and Dunn and putting in a sterling effort against Frazier.
Jack Bodell was a good domestic-level fighter who wouldn't have been in Bugner's class at their respective peaks but on the night the wily old pro had enough to beat the young lad who maybe thought he only had to turn up to win. Everything else you could say about Joe has been well said on here - he had the ability, and against Dunn and Allen in particular the aggression, to be an alphabet champion. Why he couldn't repeat it more often is a mystery that I suspect only he could answer.
