I think you are sadly deluded about the status of Irish fighters on the world stage.

Steve Collins - Held WBO titles in the days when they didn't mean anything.

Wayne McCullough - Lost his world title to a guy Jeff Fenech beat more than a decade earlier.

Barry McGuigan - Not as good as Fenech. Failed miserably when he went to the US.

    Katie Taylor?

Can't say I give a toss about women's boxing but okay, you've got us there.

    She probably beats Kylie.

Are we allowed to count Opetaia as one of ours?

On account of him being of Samoan heritage & all?

I would like to see him in with an Irishman so we can get this beef sorted.

National background doesn't matter. Jai is 100 % born Aust raised on the Central Coast. The reason i agreed with MP is that Tszyu and Darchinian is that they were born and raised overseas and didn't come out to Aust until after 18. Sakio Bikka is the same. Dennis Hogan is now a Aust and TJ Doherty but if they become World Champs they will be recognized as Irish born Aust. MP said he is South American heritage i am Eurasian so no prejudice here mate.

A couple of Australian boxing results tonight:

Fly Guy Jai Opetaia KO2 Kurtis Pegoraro - Body shot put him down for the full count. Moves to 16-0(13). Might be the best fighter in the country.

Joe "Goodnight" Goodall KO1 Braxton Edmonds - Unintentional rabbit punch put him down & out for the full count. Moves to 3-0(3). Would like to see him be a little more patient & establish the jab. Got hit with a couple of punches he didn't need to & the punch to the back of the other guy's head was b/c he was a little bit too wild & woolly.

I've really lost a lot of interest in boxing over the last year or two folks. I still watch the big fights here and there. Has this happened to anyone else ?

What other sports do you guys follow closely ? I have always followed tennis for decades and have followed both mma and European football. I'm starting to follow the NBA more so these days as well.

Does anyone here just follow boxing ?

    Thoughts ?

Come on, Franga. Pull yourself together. Watching too much soccer makes you soft & that's what I think has happened here.

I lost interest in boxing a few years back for the first time in a long time but once it's in your system, it never really leaves.

It helps if you've got someone to follow. My loss of interest coincided with Vic Darchinyan's career winding down.

That Kiwi heavy winning a slice of the heavyweight pie is what brought me back.

In saying that, I'm really only following the heavyweight division (which I think is very interesting right now), Australian boxing (yes, hard to believe, but I think there's actually some talent there) & the "big" fights (I watched GGG v Canelo & Loma v Rigo).

That's enough to keep me interested.

Well Tszyu and Katsidis came to England,Jarrod Fletcher when he was an undefeated prospect,Lucas Browne on several occasions,Sam Soliman back in the day,Lovemore n dou,Gary St Clair and one of your elite Daniel Geale lost to the relatively mediocre Darren Barker on neutral ground.

If you want to include NZ then we have had Joseph Parker over twice for title fights and Tua faced Lennox in neutral territory.Kali Meehan got smashed by Danny Williams too.

That’s just off the top of my head in a minute or 2,I’m sure there are more.Who are these superstars that we have missed the pleasure of seeing?
