I don't think Rose's win will ever be topped in Australia. In terms of popularity and local impact because it was a different world back then. Whether you think it was legit or not, Horn over Pac, Tszyu over Judah was big, that and Harding-Andries 1 are my two fav aussie fight results. I remember as a kid, Lester Ellis beating Hwan Kil Yuh was huge in Melbourne, IBF was new and realistically not that legit at the time but it had been a long time since an aussie had won a 'world' title and the media promoted it big time and most of the casual sporting public thought it was the real 'world' title. If Fenech wasn't robbed v Nelson that would have been a huge win 4 titles at 4 weights etc. Honestly it's the first time I can ever remember an aussie getting the rub of the green with the judges in the states against a local big name fighter. We can make fun of the Green win against Jones but at the time that was still a huge shock in the US boxing world/media etc even if Roy was getting on a bit!
Danny "GRINNING" Greeny is undoubtably the greatest Oceania fighter EVER. He was such a dominant cruiserweight king that he had to look for tough opponents from 3 or 4 weight classes below. Everyone in his weight class (cruiser) was ducking him so he sought out the elites from lower down. Danny fought EVERYONE, all the greats at the time a bit like Oscar De La Hoya but Danny was more dominant. Such an honest fair great fighter. Really should have been honoured with an Australian of the Year title.
The advent of Dannyweight was the most ground breaking, revolutionary thing to happen to the sport of boxing since the Marquess of Queensberry changed the sport forever.
So Lucas Browne Django is on for Saturday night. I can't believe it. Does Browne make it out of the first couple rounds? I think Django is one of Australia's best heavyweights. If Browne somehow causes the upset does he deserve a rematch with Gallen?
A win on Saturday for Big Daddy potentially puts him in line for decent paydays against Justis Huni or Demsey McLean if the latter fights here on an Eddie Hearn show (George K undercard perhaps). Can't say I have much appetite for a Gal rematch. Django is a decent heavy so Big Daddy is going to need a strong performance to win.
Django is all wrong for Browne at this stage of his career and I predict he sweeps him aside in a few rounds. But who knows..maybe Big Daddy has one more big win left in him. Maybe he just totally underestimated Gal and paid the price. This fight has been slated for a while now and he hasn't pulled out, so that's a good sign for him. If Lucas can pull it off, I think Huni is a reasonable option to cash out with.
I remember you guys talking about Dannyweight 10 years ago on here hahah And the good old Paul Briggs “soft part of the skull” Danny & Hyder can **** right off. Too many people have short memories
Just saw a pic on insta this morning of Lucas Browne eating a fried seafood platter for dinner last night. He was with Justis Huni but Huni isn't fighting on Saturday night LOL. You think by now Browne would understand no cheat meals while in camp.
Still 2 more days before the fight..... What are the chances Browne gets cold feet and pulls out of a fight again? I won't believe it's on until Browne is in the ring.
