Gawd, cant stand that ***** Badel.
But i think he's right on this occasion about Paro not being much of a draw.
I recall seeing a screen shot of the venue during the event in Cairns and it only seemed only about two-thirds full and it holds around 5,000.
Even the most recent show at Pat Rafter arena in Brisbane wasnt packed.

 

Yep Badel is the worst he is just a smug little dweeb even his NRL articles are just garbage.

 

So the plan going forward for Tim Tszyu is apparently :

1/ Fight on the Liam Paro vs Lewis Crocker card in late March. Opponent TBA.

2/ Then fight Errol Spence Jnr later in the year, in either Texas or L.A.

Kick the tyres & light the fires! Both the Tele & Foxsports are reporting that The Phoenix could be facing a local next up on the undercard of Liam Paro's world title challenge.

A few names mentioned, a couple of which I like. Andrew Hunt is a fast, skilful southpaw with plenty of natural ability. He's based in Brisbane so I like him as the opponent for Tim. Tim needs to be fighting someone with better hand speed & skills than the last bloke he faced. Beaudesert Storm has also been mentioned. He'd be decent also. Ben Mahoney was mentioned as well although I think he's a better fit as an opponent next up for Nikita. Same goes for Ben Hussain.

 

They're all mismatches. Nikita destroyed Biggs 3 years ago no way in hell Tim should be fighting him. Or any of those guys.

Mahoney? No way.

I'm okay with Andrew Hunt or Beaudesert Storm as a tuneup for what comes next. Hunt is a natural athlete who when he's on can be very good. Fighting at home in front of a big crowd should have him 'on' for a few rounds at least. Beaudesert Storm has enough good wins overseas since Nikita to be a worthy opponent for anyone domestically. I don't think the other guys have the necessary hand speed or skill level to add value to Tim's preparations for Spence so I'd pass on them. Let's see what Tim & his new team decide.

The IBFs handling of Opetaia-Glanton will be interesting to say the least and is definitely a fork in the road for Zuffa.

Glanton is IBF #15, so he ticks that IBF box.

But follow the money trail and the self-interest trail because that's what drives boxing.

If the IBF were to play the 'unsanctioned contest' card it would lose them the best fighter in the division as their champion. Plus they would lose the sanctioning fees for the Opetaia-Glanton contest. But would having an English champion in Billam-Smith, be more lucrative in the long run for them?

Even if Opetaia and Zuffa get past the Opetaia-Glanton hurdle and the IBF stay on board, what's to say Sulaiman won't turn dirty on them when they want Opetaia-Mikaelian for the IBF and WBC titles? Sulaiman has said he would back that fight but let's not forget Sulaiman claimed White 'locked him out' of the White promoted Crawford-Canelo fight.

 

Not mentioning the IBF in promotion of the fight is disrespectful to them. Should they recognise a champ who disrespects them in such a way? I'd say no, but it's not a big deal. Jai will still be the 'real' Cruiser champ if he beats Glanton. Lineal + The Ring + Snuffa = real (imo).

Dropping the IBF belt will make his stated goal of unifying the alphabet belts more difficult though. He's got an IBF belt in the trophy cabinet. He can still pick up the others & add them to his collection although that's unlikely if the other sanctioning bodies get treated as persona non grata in the same way as the IBF is being.

 

White may have erred by initially claiming he wouldn't recognize the other belts. At least when it comes to Opetaia's fate anyway.

But when it is all said and done, it is all money driven and the orgs, including Zuffa, will follow the money trail.
