Yeah and was pretty much handed the belt and made a few bogus defenses before losing to that Russian.
He seemed to have a lot of high profile friends. He was nowhere near world class yet kept on getting big fights. What was up with that?
He was well connected and was able to look good against overmatched opponents which made some promoters think he was the next Naseem Hamed but against any serious opponent he looked like crap and was able to survive using dirty tactics he bluffed his way into some big fights. Even his last big domestic fight with the Flamingo was a typical Dib showing you have to give him credit he was a great con man haha
Dib had exhausted all options in that fight and the Flamingo was starting to get well on top. Dib seized his opportunity.
Maybe he showed a lot more in the gym than on fight nights which seems to be the case with some fighters. I remember good fighters complimenting Dib in the gyms etc but he usually looked average on the actual night!
Amongst others. I think he ruined Gamboa for example by way of inactivity. And that was a great fighter.
