He threw it all away. After the fight vs england he partied hard. He should have pushed for a world title in fact I think he even declined the opportunity or at least an eliminator.

What a waste.

Australia Day continued in the boxing yesterday evening with another three fights at the Commonwealth games. Monique Suraci lost a 3-2 split decision to the English girl in a fight that could have gone either way. Apparently, there's no seeding at the Commonwealth games. It looked like a much higher standard fight than all the others to me. No robbery, but obviously disappointing to lose such a close one. Our young blokes faired better. Jye Dixon got the better of an African from a country I had never heard of (Lesotho). The guy was physically strong & could punch so Jye did well to subdue him. Too much skill. I've been saying for a while that Jye is at Olympic medal winning standard but just hasn't been getting the close decisions at international tournaments. He needs to take the gold here to vindicate that assessment. We didn't win any golds at the last Commonwealth games that was held over in the UK so here's his chance to serve notice of what's to come. Jacob Cassar did every young Australians most fundamental duty at these Commonwealth games - schooled a Kiwi. I'm pretty sure it was the same Kiwi that went further than him at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil so it was good to see him set the record straight in the Welterweight division. We can't have Kiwis galivanting around the world pretending they are better than they actually are. It was a fitting end to what will go down in history as Australia's 'other' Australia Day - 26 July. The day an Australian beat a legend to become a legend.

 

It seems to be the norm with Indigenous fighters. Cheeky May and Cameron Hammond but the biggest waste was Damien Hooper. After his big win on Horn vs Pacman card his addiction to ice meant he wasted his prime in and out of jail.

 

Hooper could have been anything and ended up being nothing. Wasted life.

 

Add Willis Meehan he had the size and power to be real HW contender like his dad. But it seemed to waste it on working for the underworld.

 

I like it though he may as well take the risk a loss won't hurt him. It's a good match up.

 

Even empty heads are hard to put brains in.
