How surprised were you by this match?

I was in the vast majority on here who picked Groves to win and was pretty darn surprised by what took place between the ropes.

How well did Jack impress? To what extent did Groves fail expectations by your account?

What would you like to see next from them, ideally and realistically?

It should have been a draw, and the only reason Jack had success was because Groves gassed as usual and was very undisciplined, he needs the Dark Lord Booth back badly.

Groves seems to be an 8 round fighter. Or maybe even a 6 round fighter.

I thought it was an entertaining and interesting fight.

When Groves dropped in round one, I was like "whaaaaaaat?!?!" I was telling everyone Groves had the fight right before it started. Yeah, Groves made me that guy at the boxing party.

Less about who Jack is, more about what Groves isn't. Jack didn't impress that much. Honestly if he didn't step on the gas from round 9 on, he'd have gotten beat.

He swept the last third or even more of the fight to secure the win. I was impressed with that after he looked too passive from rounds 2-6ish. I never thought much of him and picked him to lose big in his last two fights.

Truth is Jack has made fools out of the vast majority of us. And it would be easy to bump some threads to show just how little most of you thought about him (odds are you thought less of him than I did; based on what I've been reading for a couple years).

    Is Groves burnt toast now?

I figured that Jack would be able to pull out a tough decision, provided he didn't get tagged in the early going. Groves has always tended to fade late in bouts, while Badou showed he could come on late against Dirrell.

Didn't expect him to drop Groves early in the fight, though.

Yes, Jack surprised me, I expected him to lose because of Groves power and speed but he took everything that landed (and there wasn't much clean) pretty well.

Groves has a very limited stamina and his style doesn't help either, he's wasteful in his movement, maybe he needs to adopt the Pascal style? Just acknowledge his limited stamina and fight in bursts waiting to unleash a big counter.

I was a bit torn. I felt that Jack was consistent across the entire fight, and obviously bar the first round, he wasn't really able to keep up with Groves at the start. He didn't really change his game plan at all or adjust through all the rounds he was losing. It was Groves that lost the fight by gassing hard out. Then even after that, Jack was still just doing the same thing.

    Y'kno what I mean?

Still a good, respectable win for Jack. I don't wanna take it away from it.

I picked Groves to KO Jack based off Jacks 1st round KO loss, I didn't think he had the chin. But I did add that I thought Groves had to do it early otherwise he would fade and possibly be stopped, so the result wasn't a complete surprise as I knew Groves had shown flaws that could be exploited.

Tho is a fight that I managed to get right in, I picked jack and said he'd win in the latter rounds.

Saying jack only won because of Georges gassing is just saying that he had the better game plan. Everyone knew George had bad stamina so that's no discredit to Jack.

It might not necessarily be a stamina issue with Groves, but more an economical issue. He was throwing a lot of punches with very few landing cleanly. If he had a trainer that could convince him to be more economical with his punches, his power would carry him a lot further.

Groves is very skillful, arguably the most skillful fighter at 168 after Ward, but he's just not sturdy enough. If he was as sturdy as DeGale, he'd be an undefeated champ right now and a fight with Ward would be an absolute mega event. Knock down was decisive in the Jack fight. Without the knock down he'd win.

this is why you should do your resource on fighters before making a judgement based on other fans.
Jack is a pretty solid fight (bar the 1st round k.o) he goes to work on the body pretty well, nobody is giving him credit for knocking the wind out of groves. maybe this is why groves looked like a 6 round fighter again? froch did the same to groves. Jack took the air out of him.
Grove was going to come in and fight the same fight he has been for the based 5 fights. it doesnt work for him. Groves only has a good jab. poor chin.

I can see jack doing well in this diversion as long as he doesnt get to ****y.

But i think it was a great fight and car on saturday night in the end

Very surprised, I thought Groves would come out early, test Jack's chin and get him out of there. Instead he gets dropped early :patsch
