Severely handicapped champion? Seriously mate your posts are absolute drivel, your like a broken record pushing the same bull**** argument with different wording. You don't rate Murray and that's fair enough but stop making bull**** excuses for Sergio, the guy is and was a top 5 p4p fighter fighting in his backyard ****ing Argentina of all places and Murray went over and more or less schooled him with basic boxing knocking him on his arse a few times in the process then gets robbed and you call him lucky.Martinez is still regarded as the best middleweight in the world and you talk about him like he's some defenceless cripple,I don't get it.Just say you don't like Murray and leave it that, stop being a troll.
The answer is ANY boxer in the top 20 obviously. Otherwise why bother? This may come as a surprise to you Solaris, but GGG is not the only dominant champion in boxing history...even in middleweight history. Even in recent middleweight history. You think it was easy for, say, a guy like Tony Sibson to face Hagler? Or what about the guys who challenged Monzon? Oh and I doubt these guys got "ridiculous money" for the privilege either....:-(
Aaah, I see you've mastered the art of the one-liner eh Solaris! What a clever chap you are. Imagine how clever you'll be when you master the two-line post. :-(( Seriously, what do you think yourself? :huh Surely anyone at or near the top of their chosen job/career aspires to be be number one. In boxing that means fighting the champ, old bean. Why are these guys in boxing at all otherwise?? There is an upside to being a contender in the era of a dominant champ too. A challenger can take a beating with little damage to his reputation, eg Macklin against Golovkin.
A fighter ranked say in 2 or more organisations will take the easiest route to a belt at that point if you hold a belt & want to fight GGG you will have plenty of leverage to make $. Top level boxing is about money & protecting your belt/ranking sure they all want to be seen as no.1 but Macklin was picked especially by HBO as the fight in NYC,Irish & also durable. The fact he was beaten so quickly only looks better for the TV company HBO it has boosted GGG appeal.Macklin's reputation as you rightly say has been given little damage but he will know himself as a very knowledgeable student of the game he ticked the right boxes for the job put in front of him.
Another example for you Solaris: Provided Murray survives the "Blunder Down Under" he should be next up for GGG. With his negative style, hiding behing those huge arms, and obviously lacking Macklins warrior heart he will probably last a few rounds. This will enable Murray fans (both of em!) to perpetuate the myth that Murray is "better that Macklin" - you know he "did better" against Sturm, "did better" against Sergio....and, by hiding and surviving and prolonging the misery they will be able to say he "did better" against GGG.
Macklin was halted by Martinez. Murray was never troubled, floored the Argentine once (should have been twice). Murray was fighting in an extremely hostile arena, but showed phenomenal composure. There is little to split the two between the Sturm fights, both performed well, but Murray is the fresher fighter with less miles on the clock. Do not confuse a solid defence with being negative, Murray has excellent fundamentals and will not be blown away by GGG. Would prefer him to face Quillin, but he was unable to accept the fight when it was offered.
Indeed Makingweight. You are a bit of a student of the game yourself too. Presumably the upcoming willie Nelson fight is the "quid pro quo" from the network in return for Macklin obliging them by facing GGG, when presumably no-one else would.....hopefully he wins against Nelson, looks good and gets back on track....he can't afford any more slip-ups.
Lencoreastside - You come across as a bitter hater of Martin Murray. However, I don't see what there is to dislike. He's an honest and hardworking man who is fighting to provide a better life for his family. For you to say that Sergio Martinez was "severely handicapped" is completely ridiculous. He was and is one of the best P4P fighters on the planet and he had the Murray fight in front of his own people in Argentina. Murray then decked him twice and appeared to have won the fight by at least two rounds.
If Quillin still refuses to fight Golovkin there is a very good chance that Golovkin will fight Murray. I keep reading and hearing such...........
