I think Jessica Ennis has achieved way more than anybody else this year. Don't get me started on Jenson Button - 80% of F1 is being in the right car IMO. I remember when Mika Salo stepped in to drive a bit for Ferrari a few years back, and went from near the back of the grid to finishing in the points straight away. That said, he did do well to win the title, of course.
She won the heptathlon gold medal at the world championships. Well, she didn't just win it...... she completely shredded the field. It was like Daley Thompson in 1980 & 84, when all he had to do was finish the 1500m and the gold was his - except the women run 800m. Ennis for me. F1 is as much about the car as it is about the driver, hence why even drivers admit F1 is a team sport and Haye only beat the weakest world champion in his division. If he had beaten a Klitschko then maybe he might have deserved it. I loved Macey. Pity he was crippled by injuries.
Dailey Thompson was Olympic Champion.... Double Olympic Champion.. He used to wear a T - Shirt... "Claiming he was the World Greatest Athlete's at the time of Carl Lewis haye day..!"
Ennis, if it was best athlete, but it is sports personality. In the media how well known is she? If she appeared on the back pages how many would say who?
I think by nature she is pretty shy. A lot of winners of SPOTY haven't been household names..... Chris Hoy isn't a household name, Rebecca Adlington isn't either - and not all of them are PERSONALITIES..... Jonny Wilkinson comes across as being a dour guy, and Calzaghe :-(
it might be my bias but,i have always thought any able bodied man could box or run and jump irrespective of what background you come from or how much money your family has. its different in motor-sports,people from poorer backgrounds or poorer countries are excluded.the f1 isn't a world championship really, just better than other people with the money to take part.ditto show jumping, although it hasn't stopped princess horse and her pony daughter winning SPOTY.
That was a right ****ing joke. Then again, 2006 was a joke full stop for British sport. England choked in the world cup, boxers did **** all, the rugby teams were all raped by the southern hemisphere sides.
