Team Pavlik plans for Kelly to move up to 168 next year after he fights Abraham in January. If Abraham loses to Miranda, that plan could change, and we could see him move up sooner. However, Kelly has never called Joe out. Joe spent 7 months calling Kelly out, but since his dismall performance against BHop he has not mentioned Pavlik. Virtually every report on Calzaghe since the Hopkins fight has mentioned a potential Pavlik/Calzaghe clash, but that's all based on old information. Joe is now fixated on Roy Jones because after taking a controversial split decision against a 43 year old career middleweight he fancies himself a "legend killer." My best guess is that after Pavlik blows Joes stable mate out in June, Joe will never mention Kelly again.
OK. First, it was Joe saying the only fight he would come back to 168 for is Pavlik. There was NEVER ANY talk of this happening at LH. Second, well, I guess there is no second now is there?atsch
Are you saying Arum's statement about Pavlik moving up after "making a statement at MW" may have been premature?
People criticise Calzaghe for cleaning out his division, rather than stepping up to LHW soon after beating Eubank and fighting his way up in America to force a fight with Roy Jones. I hope the same people are proving their consistency by urging Pavlik to vacate his titles, move to SMW and get over to Europe to fight through the division and force a fight with Calzaghe. Pavlik has an advantage because we know Calzaghe would be interested, whereas Jones has said he never wanted to fight Calzaghe back then.
Sooo uhmm, all this heat you speak of, was it on Joe before he'd even made his first proper defense of his belt?? Or was it later in the 10 year period during which he held on to it like Smiegel with his "precious"??
Like I said. Ole Joe called out Pavlik and said he is the ONLY fight that would draw him back to 168. So, this LHW is utter nonsense to start with. I think moving back to 168 is going to get harder and harder. If Ole Joe doesn't realize it, he could be in very bad shape come fight night if he tries to make weight after a year or so away.
I see a lot of people missing the joke here. I'll let youin on it....... Its really about Haye and Wlad.
Gary Lockett should be atleast P4P # 3 at the worst, and should Pavlik manage to pass this hardest of tests, it should really boost his ratings.
Sorry. 17 divisions, 4 "major" sanctioning bodies, I tend to keep a little narrow. Pavlik is the home town kid so I watch the 160/168 stuff mostly. Plus, without a , given some of the posters here, it is hard to say some times. :-( I'll go away now though.....
Interesting idea.....I don't think Joe could hang with Miranda or Taylor let alone Pavlik.....it's pretty laughable really, Joe has now beat 3 great fighters in 45 fights, the last one an old man, who like Joe has done a masterful job of taking the path of least resistance throughout his career....the only fighters Joe has beaten in their prime are Lacy and Kessler...thats it...aside from this Joe WON'T fight Pavlik its too much of a risk for him and he knows this..He'll fight Jones and retire....
