How does a fighter with a closed right eye defend himself from a fighter whos best weapon is a left hook? The entire right side of his face was swollen. He couldn't stop the lefts from coming with an open eye. Seriously, I admire his toughness, but he was done. What ifs do not results change. What if instead of cheato as some speculate would not find that one magical punch, what if instead he catches one or two of the same left hooks that paralized Mayorga in his fight against Cotto, what ifs are just that, what ifs.
Yep we all have conjecture and opinions over hypothetical 'what ifs?' Yours differs to mine on this, thats why i wish we had the extra 3 rounds for resolution, but it is no more or less valid.:good
believe me i was upset when they halted the fight,no because the early stopage, but because i was enjoying so much the classy beaten Cotto was handing to margo.
This is pretty much ridiculous. Margo was getting his ass kicked in round 1 and he was getting his ass kicked in round 9. He had won 1 rd and even that one could have gone the other way. Some guys think Margo was getting stronger because he was coming harder. He was coming at Cotto faster and desperately trying to to catch Cotto with something to turn the fight around for him. He had to do this because the doctors had said "1 more" before the round. Don't think it would have happened if the eye hadn't been such a flashpoint issue before the fight, but whatever. He hadn't been able to hurt Cotto at any point in the fight(for whatever the reason). Cotto nailed him with some of his strongest punches in that last round.
Magarito was coming on, but he couldn't cut the ring off to save his life. He should've, could've, and would've but he didn't. There needs to be a third and final match. One had a definitive TKO and the other one had the doctor step in and stop the fight. Third one should be billed "Winner Takes All."
That could be interesting if and only if Margarito has healed correctly from the brutal beat downs he's received in the last few fights. He needs to let that eye fully recover...
I respectfuly disagree, he had nothing but more left hooks coming to him. Rematch? No, this fool should not be allowed to make another cent, even if it is just taking beatings for twelve rounds.
Exactly check out 1:54 - 2:01 (video time) margo catches 3 left hooks and he (Margarito) is the one that looks hurt and grabs Cotto. Margo threw a lot of punches but at the end of the day it was a Cotto rd.
Yeah the stoppage was bogus. Because the plaster Margarito secretly filled his orbital bone with was really getting to Cotto's hands and wearing them out.
