This is the IBF and the WBC we`re talking about not the dodgy "WBOgus" outfit. So where the hell were all these quality fighters??

He was 44 at the time.

He was a 4-1 betting underdog.

And Pavlik is a big middleweight. Marquez wasn't even a big lightweight. Hopkins - Pavlik was a classic, over the weight, non-title fight, nothing more nothing less. It didn't heavily favor Hopkins.

Being an underdog gets you more credibility now? The guy had to gain 10 lbs. Most people were betting that Hopkins was washed up because of the loss to Calzaghe.

He pulled the same thing with Winky Wright.

And who exactly was he supposed to fight during that time span, there wasn't anyone in the middleweight division that he could have fought that would have been worth it, the division was essentially devoid of talent outside of the ones Hopkins beat down. He blocked out the division like the sun and besides if we are going to compare Hopkins to the historical greats we must apply their standards of weight classes as well(so it is completely irrelevant to try to diminish his wins over Junior Middleweights).

what's interesting is that everyone has to say someone never beat a good fighter and therefore, they aren't a good fighter. mercaddo would beat anyone on calzaghe's record despite the weight difference. hopkins opponents sucked after they lost to hopkins because he's literally the executioner. he executes his gameplan and exploits his opponent in a way that ruins them because the fights are never close when he wins, except maybe against wright. like i said, hopkins has never actually lost a fight as opposed to losing a match, hence not winning rounds but still doing more damage. the point is, after every fight hopkins has had with the exception of the roy jones fight, i would rather be hopkins than his opponents, who always look like they just lost the fight even when receiving gift decisions.

Gives perspective on his resume. It seems like his resume looks about as good as Ricardo "Finito" Lopez' resume

Thanks Iceman can you be my wingman?

he was in the position of high risk-low reward and did not have a great promoter to get him the best fights. now he's rich, in the record books, in the hall of fame, was only legitimately HURT once in 50+ fights, only one legitimate loss, and he's went from rags to riches and gives back to communities and charities. get off his nuts. if you want to talk about resumes, taylor is the best champion of the decade, and you see how short-lived that was. at least he fought names. hopkins ended careers, so the names died before they were ever started. that speaks for itself. his resume isn't the best, but it's certainly better than a few champions who had 20+ defenses, especially one in particular.

Hopkins and Calzaghes title reigns are at best both average, but you only have to see them fight to see the sheer quality an class both fighters have, what they lack in resume they make up for in skill

Spot on mate, B-Hop is a great fighter and you cant say he does not challange himself. Yeah his MW run is not so impressive but look at his career and you see a guy who takes risks.

What he is doing now is just fantastic.

And people say Calzaaghe fought nobody. People in glass houses should not throw stones. People are so quick to discredit Calzaghe yet Hopkins reign was not too much better.

    Yes. Spot on :good

Both could have better resumes but they haven't.

Both demand respect for their skills.
