I think I agree with you. Moore could absolutley pour it on when he had his man hurt:

You do well to mention his ranking as puncher, too. I also have him all time top 5. See the leaping left hook at around 50 seconds? A technical puncher who could also riff, a boxer who could slug, Hopkins isn't winning this one. And I think a stoppage is not out of the question.

Archie on points. In a P4P sense, I think B-Hop would beat him, but Moore is just too big.

Moore's punching can get overrated if you only think of the 140-odd guys he KO'd and not the quality of many of those guys.

When one considers everyone Moore fought, this is an extremely debatable claim.

He knocked out Harold Johnson, Bobo Olsen, Lloyd Marshall, Holman Williams, Jimmy Bivins three times... yes, most of his knockouts were against non-greats (is there anyone who scored most of his KOs AGAINST greats?), but his ability to knock out great fighters is EXCEPTIONALLY well-proven.

No, actually, a more accurate interpretation would be that Moore was well before his peak when he lost to a peak Bivins in their first fight (note his spottier record and losses to journeymen during the mid-late '40s, as compared with his pristine record, only losing to Hall-of-Famers, from the end of the '40s through the late '50s), and then an improving Moore beat a perhaps slightly-declining Bivins in their rematches (Bivins' record had grown much spottier, but he was losing pretty much exclusively to the likes of Moore, Charles, Walcott, Johnson, etc.). Moreover, note that oustide of Moore, who stopped him three times, Bivins was only stopped twice in over 100 pro fights!

What would make you think Hopkins is a better light heavyweight than Johnson or Maxim??? Johnson is arguably one of the top 10 greatest light heavyweights period- and Moore did knock him out in their only 15-round title fight, as well as scoring knockdowns in at least one of their 10-rounders. Maxim was stopped only once early in his career of 110 professional fights, and Moore had him down twice in one of their title fights. Maxim and Johnson were both big light heavyweights who had successful heavyweight campaigns, too. This is not strong reason to think Moore couldn't stop an old great ex-middleweight.

Moore was naturally bigger and more powerful than any of those guys. Let it also be pointed out, for the sake of argument, that Segundo Mercado did have Hopkins down twice in their first meeting.

All of that said, I do think Hopkins would last the distance with Moore, but a Moore stoppage should not be out of the question.

I also think it lasts the distance, with Moore winning a comfortable decision.

    At LHW?

    Prime to prime.

    Moore wins, comfortably.

    No disrespect to B'Hop.
