Really interesting to see how Hopkins started as a brawler but is now a more defensive fighter. He really has gone through changes in style over the years.
:happy:happy:happy a great lesson. and it didn't feature too many big words so maybe the dumb haters who discredit hopkins can actually understand.
1st part of the post is useless.1st off outside of Duran and Hearns, who were the little guys that Hagler beat in all of his top victories? In fact, most boxing fans don't even shout about Hagler's win over Duran as Marvin fought in an uncharacteristically non-aggressive manner until the last few rounds of the fight. It is most DEFINITELY NOT one of his "top victories" and NOBODY considers it to be so.2nd,outside of the shaking hands incident, when did Hagler ever prove to make the racist statements or practice the racist behavior that B-hop has?And by the way,Hopkins has been a great fighter for a long time, but his best victories have been over Trinidad,DelaHoya and Winky, all smaller guys and none of whom are better than Hearns.
The fact that Hopkins is winning titles at the age that he is now is absolutely amazing and he deserves all the credit in the world due to his longevity, ability and conditioning. But he's still a beast because he won a close fight over JEAN PASCAL?
His performance over Glen is his best performance that I've personally seen.He boxed beautifully and aggressively, unlike the grabbing and holding performance in his later years against Winky. He's still the only man to stop Johnson and Glen is still fighting into his 40s like Bernard.
he really is ahead of his time. he was a beast when he was younger. I hope he continues the reign of success. I think he UD Dawson 7-5 or 8-4
You're right, he only won against SOME of the smaller guys. Tarver is a better win, so are Pascal and Pavlik and maybe Wright and he got flat ROBBED out of a victory against 'bad decisions' Taylor. You gotta give him credit for Trinidad, who was murdering middleweights before he met Hopkins.
Just because a fighter moves up in weight dosnt mean hes the smaller man, IE Floyd and Ortiz. Normally fighters move up because they can no longer maintain their division weight. Its a natural progresion. Plenty of fighters go up in weight and take championships. Hopkins did it twice. Fighters also go down. Mosley, Pac, Sergio wants to come down, and nine times out of ten, when you go down, you are the bigger man. However Pac is the exception of being the smaller man going up and he went up for the money.:bbb:bbb:bbb
