You might want to check out ESPN's boxing site and check out his archive section. He's got some articles you can check out.

That's pretty much my take on it. Bert is really a boxing treasure. For younger people, I imagine he takes a bit of getting used to, but if you read the history of the sport - boxing history is FILLED with characters like Sugar. He is a link to the historic tradition of print journalism in boxing, a tradition that is rapidly disappearing - appreciate him while he's here.

I only really seen him get stopped in his tracks once, Teddy Atlas kinda set him straight which was kinda funny. The arguement was about Tyson being a born Heavyweight champion before he ever stepped in the ring, Sugar said he was and Atlas said he wasn't. Atlas pretty much told him Tyson needed alot of work before we could even put him in the ring, he finished off by saying "I guess every 200 pound 13 yearold can be champ by your estimation," he shut up pretty quick after that.:yep

Great thread. I've wondered the same about these old ****s waxing poetic about the good ol days. I think they have some merit but at the same time don't give current fighters their due.

My opinion is that he talks too much about that murderer (allegedly) Ray Lewis and how he would be HW champ.

On ESPN he did pre-fights on Calzeghe/Kessler and Cotto/Mosely. I thought they were entertaining but added nothing to what I'd previously read on ESB. I do not recall him picking an outcome for either fight, he just said so & does this magnificantly but he better watch out for blah blah blah's tremndous ability to shabadada. Correct me if I'm wrong, but him not picking anyone to win these fights was not old school, it was just lame.

decent...spouts off a lot of nonsensical myths as facts, and rates ANY old fighter over modern fighter.

He tells stories I have heard 500 times before and basically toes the party line regarding all fighters. He wouldn't know an original thought if it ****ed him in the ass.

He has Dempsey 9th greatest of all time Jack Johnson 10th and Gene Tunney 13th. Theres no way you can justify that, those guys didnt achieve anymore than the likes of Lewis or Tyson yet on this list, Tyson and Lewis is nowhere to be found.

Personally, I think he sucks. He also tells aprocyphal stories like they're cold hard fact. Duran knocking out a horse. Tyson punching through a wall before the Spinks fight. He knows how to tell a story, but grandpa got no game. NO GAME.
