I wonder if Berto neglects to use his footwork or he really is naturally flat footed.

In some fights I've seen him move in and out like a sniper, and in others it seems like he's content just mixing it up and slugging it out.

I wonder if he can move, but doesnt because he feels like he can hit harder than anybody in the division so it is THEY and not HE that should be doing the moving.

He's still an enigma in my eyes because even his defense could have been improved for Estrada's style of fighting, and even though his cornermen told him to put his hands up, Berto seemed content with doing his best Floyd impression which obviously was not working for him.

If he would just admit to himself that he should keep his hands up and despite how hard he hits, a little movement is going to be necessary if he plans on moving up to the next level.

Imagine if he fought Clottey the same way he fought Estrada.

He probably would have gotten KOed.

As probably the biggest fan of Berto on hear (hometown) I question Berto's ring smarts. As his competition gets better and better he's gonna have to come up with different plans for each invidual fighter ala Mayweather, or he's soon gonna realize he can't slug his way to victory everytime, cause every slugger eventually gets there ears boxed off..

yes, that would be a great fight!!

quintana is a very good, awkward fighter. berto has shown he can handle the straightforward maulers like estrada.

this would be a good learning experience for him......if he can pass the test. close fight imo.

I agree about him fighting Clottey that way. And as much as I love Chad Dawson, he at times has shown the same tendency to emulate Roy Jones (late vs. Adamek).

Berto always has looked flat-footed to me. Just the way he walks. He moves OK forward and backward, but he drags his feet when moving sideways. Jeff Lacy is the same way. I just don't see that ending well for him against an elite opponent who can box, especially considering that Berto's defense isn't very good to begin with.

He's a real offensive talent, though, and that handspeed makes him very dangerous. He has combination ability at the major league level, so it's not like he's in there looking to connect with one shot.

Berto is starting to look like he's going to make some waves in boxings toughest division.Power, footwork, a good jab, and the killer instinct. He beat down Estrada with a clinical performance.Look out for this dude.

I think Berto will win. Quintana is certainly game but Berto's offense is better than many boxers, and he certainly aint Joel Julio. Joel came over from colombia with an impressive record knocking everybody out, but when faced someone decent here in the States, he didn't fare so well. In fact, he was dominated.
Berto, on the other hand, acquired his record here in the states, and when he faced an OK fighter (Estrada), he won impressively.

One thing im glad to see is that it seems Berto is getting better with each fight up as the competition gets tougher, he's still very young and has plenty of time to learn more. If his trainers dont beat defense into him though it wont matter. He has the offensive weopons to beat anybody in the division.

No, he was missing against Estrada a lot, he's quick but doesn't have great timing and he's preditable.

I'll just go ahead and pick Quintana, unless Quintana has a glass liver in the end...

I don't think that he missed that often.

The problem was that HE was hit too often. And I'll agree that he occasionaly telegraphs his right hand, but not so much to be labeled predictable.

His offense isn't the problem. He has timing, speed, and power.

He needs to work on movement, defense, and adjusting his style to suit his opponent.

The guy is good. Stop hatin.

I wouldn't call his offense predictable. He throws very nice combinations at fast speeds. He inflicted more pain and damage to Estrada than what Cintron did to Estrada. And a big part of it was his speed and ability to throw combinations. I honestly thought Estrada was going to call it quits at rounds 5 or 6 by the look on his face after certain rounds. Ive never seen him so discouraged...he got his ass whooped.

Interesting fight if it happens, would like to see how Berto can handle a guy like Quintana, and would be a good comparison against the Cotto performance.
