actually, he was spent but he could still have survived the round. Fighters do get a minute between rounds to recover. He was only hit with 1 powershot in the sequence directly leading to the stoppage. That powershot was not a continuation of those other powershots that had him wobbling all over the ring, although of course they had a lasting effect. bottom line, he had a good chance of weathering the storm and seeing out the round. That is the sole basis of what I judge to decide if its a good stoppage.
I think Berto has decent power and his combos are good so long as he has a stationary target. He winds up falling all over anyone with movement. He can't seem to adjust mid-combination for a moving target.
I can't figure out if I have no life because I post on a boxing forum, or the people who are waiting for me to come out and drink tonight have no life because they're waiting for a guy who posts on a boxing forum. I gotta go, man.
Also, I forget which fighter it was, but a Southpaw rocked him with a left uppercut, I believe it was. Or, the guy was Orthodox and switched Southpaw to land the shot. Something like this, but Berto is very hittable and doesn't have a clue about making adjustments.
I hear you. I went out last night so I could skip out on everything tonight. Saturday nights are a lonely affair for boxing fans. Friend is having a party next weekend and I actually got pissed off when I saw it conflicted with Pavlik vs. Martinez.
No chance. I picked Mosley before to stop Berto and tonight only convinced me further on it. Mosley will wreck Berto.
That's the fight I was thinking of then. Switched Southpaw and Berto kept coming in as usual. Ripped from an angle he wasn't prepared for.
Did you watch 24/7??? I noticed shane pouding away on someone in a philly shell holding a big ol' medicine ball against the ropes.... makes me think shane knows wtf he is doing.
I didn't like the stoppage. Obviously Berto had some serious momentum and had him hurt, but Quintana could have continued... basically if I was Quintana I wouldn't have wanted to quit at that point. At least let the guy get knocked down before the fights over. It's called a fight for a reason. Yes people get knocked the **** out, this is boxing!
Well that's an oxymoron, if a fighter is spent, he rarely survives the round. And the fight was stopped with 44 seconds to go. 44 seconds is a long time, I don't know where you base your confidence of Quintana having a good chance to survive the round. And Quintana isn't exactly known for his recuperative powers. He was done.
no. He could have survived the round. 44 seconds is a long time but its doable especailly since Berto had thrown alot of punches in that round and was likely a little spent as well. We'll never know for sure, which is why its a bad stoppage.
