Seems the people who believed Floyd was only interested in Berto were way off. Looks like we may see Floyd fight Ortiz next, which was more than likely JUST what he wanted. Ortiz is a decent tune up fight and he's bringing fresh legs, some real hunger to win, and a southpaw stance. This isn't going to be a cakewalk for a rusty Mayweather. HBO has to be pleased with this either way. If Ortiz wins, he's automatically the new Oscar. If Floyd wins, he's got his strap back that Berto was previously keeping warm for him, plus some rounds in with a game southpaw before facing Pac.
How the **** do you come to that conclusion? Anyone with an IQ over 30 could see that floyd was there to get a fight vs Berto. Look how he cheered for Berto in round 6 when he knocked down Ortiz. It is indeed very funny thta Ortiz punked them all
Wrong. Berto does seem to have been the target there, for Floyd, but it appears as though Ortiz was deemed an acceptable alternative after the Berto plans fell through. It makes sense: Ortiz is a good-looking, great-story, Mexican-American boxer with a large potential Latino/Mexican fan base. Make the fight in heavily-Latino Texas, promote Ortiz as a legitimate threat to the disliked Mayweather and you have a good "second option" (actually, third option, behind Pac-PBF and Berto-PBF) bout here. But that wasn't the original plan, IMO. That seems pretty clear.
Berto was highly overrated. I knew he was tailor made for Ortiz fighting on his heels. Not gonna win at that level fighting like that. You can't move easy and out of harms way fighting flat footed which is why he got nailed with 200 + power shots. ortiz did not even need to jab. Berto is similar to Jermaine Taylor in that he is super athletic but i think it stops there.
if anything ortiz like usual made it harder on himself. He still has some mental cracks which is why if I was Khan I would have called him out the next day and made that fight. his stock is sky high but overpriced. Berto was ripe for the picking. berto can be trapped into eating power shots vs any top welter. You could tell by watching Lou Dibella's facial expressions he knew his hype train was at the last stop.
