personally most people including myself easily think that Stevenson was greater than Savon, Stevenson's record is outstanding but Savon's record is just incredible.
as far as i know his career ended when he reached the age of 37 and due to rules established by the Olympic Comission could not fight on. He was also knocked out by Samuel Peter. Nevertheless, he was an IMPRESSIVE fighter, just go on to youtube and watch kim knock out young david tua, shannon briggs, Ibragimov, Krasniqui, Lamon Brewster, Williamson, damn! Just can't understand why in the name of so called Cuban Revolution he refused to go pro, he was offered 10 million dollars to fight Tyson at his peak, just as his fellow compatriote Teofilio Stevenson had been offered lots of money to fight Ali years back.
He was amazing, one of the true great that never turned pro, the next big amateur from cuban was Guillermo Rigondeaux
i respect the fact that a cuban would be the best amateur ever as they have the best amateur fighters in the world. shame they dont fight pro though to see how good they really are.
felix savon is defiinitely one of them...but think if others never turned pro...i mean how many title would pbf or SRL or meldrick have tefilio stephenson is an atg sugar ray leonard was a phenom yuriorkis gamboa
Yep damn shame that fighters have to defect from that country in order to turn professional. Makes a lot of sense:fire
I recommend using this site for detailed amateur records (not only of Cubans, but many others greats like Ali, Papp etc). http://www.geocities.com/pedrinet/index.html
he tried last year, got caught in brazil and was sent back to cuba, has been banned from ever boxing in cuba again, and is not allowed to leave the country either so his boxing career is pretty much over if he dosen't get a boat and defect soon (his 28 years old)
