Out of the boxers I have seen footage of I would defiantely say Michael Watson. Closely followed by Herol Graham.

Im sure I saw Kirkland Laing in Nottingham not so long ago, lookin like your typical wino. Pure shame man, the guy had all the talent in the world but his training regime consisted of an 8" reefer followed by 12 rounds of Stella and a warm down at the roulette table. Id say he gets my vote, he beat a pretty dam tidy version of Duran thats gotta count for summat.

How about the recently departed Chris Finnegan??

Olympic, British, Commonwealth and European titlist and was involved in Ring Magazine's "Fight Of The Year" with Bob Foster in 1972

So close to a title and has all the other belts and accolades to match

I had a drink with him once as well. There was him, Walter McGowan, John McCluskey and my dad, Alan Rudkin. Not a bad array of little men.

I can think of a few fighters that came close to winning world titles and perhaps should have but ultimately they evidently weren't good enough. Nicky Piper vs Leonzor Barber springs to mind as a fight where a British fighter should have won a world title but I can't possibly suggest that Piper was world class.
