The only British promoters I am aware of are the two Franks and Hennessey. Who are the lesser known promotors in Britain and if you were an amateur about to go pro, who would you want promoting you?
Not forgetting Hayemaker promotions - early days but they have made some decent matchups, Dodson vs Quigley being the latest.
I think Hayemaker deserve to be in the top tier now, unlike other boxers turned promoter he seems serious about this. They've signed up some good names and are putting on competitive shows. They will grow quick if they continue to do so as youngsters will buy into it. They know they will be signing with a promotion that will let them progress, not babysit them.
VIP promotions anyone? The work they've done in the North West is pretty incredible bearing in mind they have no TV backing. I think they are on the cusp of becoming a major player.
The established players are pretty much... Frank Warren Frank Maloney Mick Hennessy's Hennessy Sports Barry Hearn's Matchroom Sport Dennis Hobson's Fight Academy Plus the newcomers... David Haye and Adam Booth's Hayemaker Promotions Ricky Hatton's Hatton Promotions Obviously there are tonnes about across the country, but the only ones with a TV deal are those listed above (except Hatton and FA). If you were going pro from an amateur I think you'd be happy if any of those names really. Frank Warren is probably the biggest in the UK, and Hayemaker seem to be the "cool, new promotion". Maloney and Hennessy are solid promotions. Matchroom sport are more more interested in darts and snooker than Boxing-unless its prizefighter, and Fight Academy aren't that attractive these days, especially after the silly Tony Jeffries' situation. And its too early to tell with Hatton, I think they've only had two shows.

Probably in that order. Hobson and Hatton do not have TV deals. Without TV the promoters do not make any cash. Hobson do not have a TV deal. Think about the Hatton vs Bami show on saturday. Say they sold 1,500 tickets, average ticket price of £50. Thats £75,000, max your going to get from advertising is £100,000. Even after ruling out sanctioning fees, refs, the ring, site fee, advertising, they put on 8 fights, so the 16 fighters were getting an average of £6,250. I guarentee Matthew Hatton and Bami were getting a minimum of £15-20k each, and Murray must be on decent cash to have signed with them as a few other promoters fancied him.
Interesting about that top 5 order. I presume you've gone for Hennessy over Maloney as they've got the itv contract and a world champion in Froch. I'd be tempted to go for Maloney being above Hennessy but tis a close call. And Hayemaker at the bottom does surprise me. The only thing (for me) that warrants Matchroom not being bottom is the Prizefighter series. They probably produce a similar output in numbers of shows as with Hayemaker, but Hayemaker have the big recognisable face of David Haye as the top Boxer and promoting the company (even though I'm sure its Booth and Coldwell that do all the hard graft) and other recognisbale faces to the public. Price obviously cos if the Olympics, and Curtis Woodhouse is always a great story before he fights. If Munroe and Moore go on to become world champions, and Jeffries and Sutherland continue well, that definitely solidifies Maloney as the no.2 promoter in the UK. Fight Academy is on its last legs I'm fairly sure. After the Jeffries fiasco, Clinton woods is the only name they've got, and he's in a position of seemingly wanting to retire when he next loses. I'm sure FA will go on doing dinner shows etc. but on its last legs from a public viewpoint. Far too early to say about Hatton's promotion. I'm surprised he hasn't used his clout to get a deal with Sky, but they seem very happy with what they are showing at the mo. British/Commonwealth title Friday Fight Nights, and the odd Khan or Hatton PPV.
yeh spot on, hennesey ahead of Maloney because of Froch and ITV, and Matchroom ahead of Haye because the prizeifghter sells out every venue it goes, there do 6 of thema year and it gets mega viewers on sky
