Chuvalo was a top 10 HW for 15 years during a very strong era. His resume' reads like a veritable who's who of 60's and 70's heavyweights. He quit on his stool once, but was NEVER knocked down. End the thread:hey
20 punch combo? Even a ref back then should have stopped the fight. You can't base anything on what you perceive. I've seen those fights as well, and I'm sorry, but where's this mythical combo? Tell the round and fight it happened in and I'll go straight back to my fight library and see if you're right. You might be making a mountain out of a mole hill. Not to say those fights don't prove that he has a great chin. Tex Cobb took loads of shots against Larry Holmes, not in combination, but that's pretty ****ing impressive. Then against Larry ain't Sugar, and Sugar ain't Larry. Seriously, tell me where to find this combo, and I'll be on it like...hmmm...I'll be on it like Floyd Mayweather on money.
You made some good points but i still think Lamotta was the best at taking a punch, and i doubt to many people would argue, especially the old timers.. AND HE'S STILL ALIVE AT almost 88, they need to preserve his DNA when he passes, for scientific research..
I forgot Chris Eubank. He would rival any MW of all time in the chin stakes. Not many guys can take 22 rounds of bombs from a prime Nigel Benn and only slip once - which is what it was, not a KD.
What about Marvin Hagler? Not too mention, just like Eubank he slipped against Roldan. Also, Hagler went up against hard hitters like Tommy Hearns, John Mugabi, Bennie Briscoe, and Eugene Hart. Edit: Wait one second. Eubanks was dropped by Joe Calzaghe and Steve Collins. Or are you arguing that it's strictly in middleweight that he had a great chin, because then you're not entirely answering the question. This is best chin ever, not best middleweight chin.
I just think generally, MW/SMW - Eubank was past his best by the time he was decked by Collins, and was simply caught cold by Calzaghe, who at the time was stopping everyone pretty much in the first two or three rounds...... Chris's chin was made of granite, no other way of describing it.
Wayne McCullough. Never down in his career, never down in sparring, never down as a amateur. The beating he took against Daniel Zaragoza was insane.
