thats actually wrong, he did go a majority of the round without throwing a punch though.

in case of sweet pea and floyd id say sweat pea, he could just duck in and out and then dance away like nothing happened.

Floyd was good though, id loved to have seen a fight between this to for techinical skill, although i know it would be a snooze fest for the casual fan.

i also think willie pep was amazing, he could just faint his way out of trouble and his foot work was top class to.

tight guard = putting arms to face covering up like a girl

    footspeed = running

evasiveness = being too scared to stay in one spot

You can find degrading ways to talk about any defensive style.

When it came to being in range and not getting hit with punches, which to me is the keystone to defense, Winky was better than the rest.

Sweet Pea, the way he used to stay in the pocket and not get hit was an absolute master class in defensive boxing.

Has anyone ever made such a top class fighter as Chavez look like a total bum at times before?

This is why I regard Whitaker in highest regard defensively. Although he was robbed in that fight as we all know.

I agree Whitaker was genius , some would say defensive to the point of boring. Also, one who needs a mention Wilfred Benitez , quality defensive fighter, and strange but true ...early ..prime Mike Tyson ..I see cats throwing major shots at him and his head movement alone slipping them answering wid a fierce left hook.

Locche, Pep and Pea in terms of movement and slipping.

In terms of blocking and counter-punching? Hmmmm....there's a few I can think of but wouldn't want to decide 'the best' right now.

To be fair Floyd has made a conscious effort to be more aggressive in that fight.

Still I agree....Floyd's nose was bleeding bad and he got tagged more frequently in that fight then I think I've seen him hit since.

Lucky he had the firepower to keep Burton off.

Now he's known as Augustus I find it hard to believe his record is as bad as it is??? Don't get me wrong he doesn't win every fight but I've seen him been robbed far too many times to remember the exact number.

Augustus should be contending at the top of the 10 stone division. You think he'd give the likes of Bradley/Torres/Urango/Holt a good fight? Even in his twilight years I think he would.

Isn't he trained by Roger Mayweather now?

Whitaker dodged the bullet against better fighters.

    Nelson,Chavez.

If Castillo can make life tough for Floyd imagine what Chavez would of done.

my point exactly. These guys would get to Floyd in the early rounds. He wouldn't have time to adapt as per usual because the damage would already be done.

I think Chavez would have none of the problems against Floyd that he had against Pea.

Not sure where he is at at the moment or who is training him, but Whitaker could stand on a nickel and not move his feet with his hands down at his waist against an Emmanuel Augustus and would not come out with blood pissing from his nose like Floyd did.
