That's either a good joke or a thoroughly insane comment, so here are my responses to whichever one it was: :happy or -( Nah, not really. I don't doubt it's importance, but it's never my primary focus when analysing boxing. As already stated, there are uses of the jab I love (eg Pea-Nelson, Hagler-Sibson), but I'm much more into tracking down great combo-punchers or great bodypunchers than I love great exponents of the jab. Just a personal preference.
i could feel it when king wlad finished chambers in last minutes of last round: really really painful!
I've never understood why some fighters seldom use the jab. It obviously blinds the opponent for a split second and sets up the power shot. For instance, i was watching Mosley/Mayweather and the few times Mosley threw a solid jab, it was much more effective than when he just threw a half assed jab.
I agree. I mean I like Mayweather but his jab is not one of the best of all time. Hell I have jabs like Winky's & Quartey's over Floyd's easily. Also, I understand that Ali had a great jab and was pretty versatile with it but I never really cared for it. Don't get me wrong it was great but it doesn't captivate me like Hagler's, Hearns' or even DLH's.
When fighters are in there against fast counter-punchers, they can be wary of throwing the jab, as some guys (like Floyd) love to time them and come over the top of the jab with a straight right. Haye is another guy that loves to time jabs with his right, but unlike Floyd he has the power to turn that counter into a possible KD or KO chance. Pac has taken to timing jabs with his straight left, which you can really see in the Cotto match. I agree that people should jab more, though. It's such a great punch -- simple, direct, quick, and can be used in so many ways.
Look at any Winky jab-fest. Khan had a nice strong jab too. Btw....it surprised me. You can tell Roach worked on that.
im a joe frazier fan, but you must be a ****ing clown to think that the jab is not the best weapon to use in boxing. frazier got trounced by Alis jab
I'm much more impressed with Mayweather's jab to the body more than his jab to the head. I can't think of too many fighters, if any, in recent memory who use it as effectively as him. Disrupting rhythm, maintaining distance, setting up bigger shots to the head (basically some of the purposes of a jab to the head). Whereas when you look at the jab to the head, there's a number of fighters ahead of Floyd that stand out in this regard.
the jab to the body was my favourite punch, mostly because it scored , it wasnt risky, and it set up good shots
Frazier did not get trounced in any way in any of his fights with Ali you ****ing idiot. Re-watch then apologize. atsch The jab is a formidable weapon, but it is not the best weapon in boxing in my opinion. The best weaponry is effective combination-punching. I'd take Duran in full flow over Holmes snapping out the jab any day of the week. That's my personal preference.
