A few years ago I took interest in Cleroux and started reading up on him a bit. I think timing and luck was just all wrong for him. Whenever he started looking like a contender he'd drop a loss at the wrong time. It also didn't help that he took several years off from the ring during a time when he should have been peaking. Haven't seen much footage of him. Only broken bits and pieces but from what little I've seen and the credentials on paper, he looked like a pretty solid professional. Certainly one of the better heavyweights Canada has produced in the last half century.
Thats pretty much it. I have never really been able to figure it out except maybe he was just slight bit limited skillwise. He was very tough and very strong but just couldnt seem to get over that hump.
I love George and he would have been a contender in ANY era but, outside of the Quarry anamoly, what 'contender' did he EVER beat? Spare me the Doug Jones BS! His best performences were in LOSSES (a credit tho not a resume builder) Am I wrong? And don't bring up 'weathered' ex-contenders when he himself was on the downslide...
