I heard a writer say that Benavidez makes fighting inside in an orthodox stance and a southpaw stance look like two completely different things. I watched the Yarde and Plant fights and couldn't see anything like this, which fights should I be watching?
i dont get it, they are 2 completely different things. they each create completely different angles depending on what stance your opponent is using.
I think they're probably referring to the closing sequence of the Zurdo fight, where Benavidez briefly switches southpaw. I think it's more so due to him fighting squared so much and ending up in southpaw because of balance rather than a conscious decision to switch.
thats exactly what he does. it keeps him in position to punch at any part you leave exposed because you cant cover every angle. he is very good at instantly seeing which angles your position leaves exposed where all he has to do is lean one way or the other to find the lane. there are ways to make him pay for squaring up like that up close, but it involves a lot of weaving and some timing, which seems to not get taught anymore.
Ye he just falls into a southpaw stance from poor balance? lol. He does it often, in the pocket in the heat of battle. Check out Kyrone Davis fight also. It's not by accident. He learned all this from living in the gym sparring legends as a kid.
