I just looked up Duran's record on boxrec, it seemed to me that Duran had rematched Camacho much sooner.....I was taken back to find out that 5 years went by between fights...... ......Camacho as I said likely took Duran lightly that first fight, but with 5 years going by, it just does'nt seem fair not to say that 5 years had more to do with Duran's showing in that rematch. Looking back at it now, its a pity that the judges dishonestly awarded that first fight to Camacho. Duran really deserved that fight. I think you mentioned earlier Stonehands, that the Camacho fight was a clearer victory for Duran than the Barkley fight. A damn shame Duran was deprived at his last chance to celebrate a big victory. ......how sweet that would have been? Right in Camacho's face too!:yep
Well, I'm not so sure that there is much difference in the ring between 45 and 55. Duran did something that you just don't see very often at all -Duran got in the best shape he could for a middle-aged man and then adapted to his style to his physical limitations -setting redundant traps that neither Camacho nor his corner saw. I am happy that I no longer lament this injustice alone. And believe me, I do lament this. And yes, it's a more questionable decision than both Duran-Barkley and Leonard-Hagler. I encourage everyone on ESB Classic to watch it. Perhaps more will agree with us that it was nothing less than a slap to the face of a legend in the twilight of his career.
