Lennox is just bad... I'd take Paulie as a commentator any day of the week... Paulie is actually really witty/clever observer. Good input. Froch is just funny at times, can't help but laugh at him and enjoy. Shannon always a pleasure, and entertaining David Haye... good input but still manages to come across as cocky guy Anthony Joshua... while he has really good insights on boxing... he is just a terrible radio/commentator personality... very bland communication skills...cringe Bellew.... bad, not in his natural habitat.. probably better than AJ... but just not needed on the mic.
I think Tarver is an excellent commentator, I'd say him or Paulie are the best concerning fighter turned commentator. Big George is horrible, he's jovial, funny, and entertaining but I swear 50% of the time he has no clue what's going on.
Timothy Bradley isn't the best but nothing like the shyte we hear from Froch, Mackiln and Barker; they don't commentate, they just market and toe the corporate party line. David Haye is very good and actually gives insight and explains what's going on without creaming himself everytime a MisMatchroom fighter lands a jab, he adds more than those other three put together.
Sean O'Grady was always entertaining....hasn't been seen in years. Sergio Mora is very good...heard him say "body shots make cowards of us all". I wonder if he realized he was paraphrasing a line from Hamlet. Paulie is good IMO. Ray Mancini gets too excited...screams OH OH when a guy goes down. Lennox Lewis is a unfortunate combination of boring and unintelligible. Jim Watt speaks Gaelic only and needs subtitles. Froch is an ass. Big George was funny and had good insights but often stumbled with phrases. I have to state that among non boxers Brian Kenny is useless and should stick to baseball...and the absolute bottom of the barrel is Mauro "The Screamer " Ranallo.
Paulie - Very good. Somewhat eccentric but very verbally dextrous and shows deep knowledge of the sport. Even where I disagree with him, you can appreciate he's trying to take the analysis up a level. 9/10 Bellew - Good, in my opinion. Has clear loyalties to certain friends in the sport, but not afraid to call them out for phoning in a performance or taking a whooping from time-to-time. Decent, in general. 8/10 Haye - Pretty decent really. Has some keen insights but likes to explicitly refer to his own experiences for context a little too much. 7/10 Macklin - Boring. Sorry, Matt. 5/10 Froch - Egotistical maniac. I don't know how the rest of the team can stand him. Clearly carries a massive chip on both shoulders. At a recent Gloves off round circle he was asked (along with all the above barring Macklin) to talk about how his first defeat effected him and he spent 5 minutes talking about how great his own chin was instead. Painful. 4/10
The best is/was Iceman John Scully - Completely unbiased and even if YDKSAB, you understood his commentary Close second is Sean O'grady and Raul Marquez very knowledgeable and calls the play by play very efficient The worst is Lennox Lewis - self explanatory
Paulie and Big George are my faves. Paulie for analysis, and George for making things fun to watch. He was also right more times than people like to give him credit for (to be fair, that's because when he was wrong he was wrong big). Honorable mention to Tim Bradley for telling the ESPN crew to stuff it with their narratives from time to time; having that Pacquiao money means you don't have to give a rat's backside. Worst? Roy Jones Jr. His voice is just annoying. Also, every British boxer who made the switch ever. Shills, every last one of them.
