The fight didn't turn into an all time great fight because Bivol woudn't allow it. He fought a negative style. Constant high guard, running away and a low work rate. It takes two to tango. The 2nd Barrera Morales fight wasn't a great fight because Morales wouldn't allow it.
Bivol is a pure boxer by nature and with a fight with so much on the line against a fighter with 100% KO ratio it's only natural for him to fight his usual style. Personally I think he could have used more offense and aggression to sway the judges but he still fought with a good game plan that didn't get him stopped like all of Beterbiev's victims. The second Barrera vs Morales fight I recall it was Barrera who wasn't willing to engage and was mainly looking to counter while Morales was the one pushing the fight by being the come forward aggressor.
A pure boxer is somebody like Lomachenko. Somebody who uses technique to sit in the pocket and dissect the opponent with technique.
If Bivol ran backwards any faster he would have gone back in time and found himself in a DeLorean with Marty McFly
He was sticking and moving. Used his feet to stay away and fired fast combos against Beterbiev. Took a page out of Sugar Ray Leonard when he fought Marvin Hagler.
Yes, that's why I'm not his biggest fan. Usyk also did way more damage in those fights than Bivol did.
Unbeatable, LOL. Different judges might have said Bivol won that fight. Beterbiev is a great fighter but he's getting old and there are some styles like Bivol's that don't suit him.
Of course he won the fight officially but given a lot of people think he didn’t and it was a very very close fight he obviously isn’t unbeatable.
