That's a solid point, but Marciano is far,far more proven. and whacking out Callum Smith doesn't compare to beating Ezzard Charles or Archie Moore, etc.
Because Marciano dried out to 188 to fight so maybe they were comparable in size if we assume Artur is PED free, not a given. . Valid point. That said, you pick Artur over Rocky ? Not me.
Because people are idiots who don't understand that fighting at HW in the 1950s doesn't automatically mean you'll be fighting there in the 2020s?
Well, I think we can safely assume that both Beterbiev and Usyk have had tremendous success in the pros! Generally when all of a fighter's opponents seem to be acting in the same way one of two things is happening: either that fighter is intentionally picking guys with very similar styles and attributes to look good against, or something that fighter is doing is forcing them to fight that way. With Beterbiev I won't say his run of opponents has shown the hugest variety, but they're not all clones of each other and generally bring a different range of problems to the ring. Thus I think it's clear that the common denominator is Beterbiev himself. But yes, I get your point, and it'd be nice to see how he does against a really first rate mover or smotherer or counterpuncher etc. Bivol is about the best he's probably going to get at LHW at the moment. He's not the greatest defensive wizard, employing a rather standard high guard to block incoming shots, but he's excellent at controlling range and where he is in the ring. Basically a really high quality textbook boxer who's difficult to pin down or catch clean.
Compared to who ? With Marciano ? I think they have a long road in front of them to get to Rocky Marciano.
I like the guy, I like his style one thousand times more than Usyk´s, but I feel sad that he is already 39 years old and has only 20 pro fights. These great amateurs need to get into the pros sooner ! Why they wait so much ? The pros is hard and uncertain, I know, you don´t have the government paying your bills like these of the olympic level, but there are so many more prizes in pros !
Anyone's opinion change since then? This content is protected And no, Marciano still isn't naturally bigger than Beterbiev...
Marciano KO7, breaks Beterbiev. Highly depends on era though, Marciano would benefit from smaller gloves (Beterbiev is too reliant on a tight high guard for his defense, would struggle with smaller gloves). In a firefight, always take the man with the better chin. Marciano would also force a pace that Beterbiev doesn't like, and Beterbiev is too dependent on being able to move forward vs an opponent, but Marciano is a brutal 2 handed puncher (much better than say, Yarde) and is the same size as Beterbiev. Marciano is just too proven against much better opposition. We probably never saw a prime Beterbiev get pushed to his limits sadly.
Yes, and if he didn't have to make 175 he'd probably be coming in a bit heavier still. He'd be the bigger guy. I do agree that Rocky had the more good night kind of punch, though. But Beterbiev is a serious bruiser, you can see how even his arm punches are painful. He hurt Bivol landing on his guard. Would be a fantastic fight this.
Beterbiev proved a ton to me in his loss ... at forty he showed how great he was in so many ways but simply ran low on gas , could not keep up the pace needed to keep Bivol in check ... that said he was not ever going to walk down Marciano who has big advantages in stamina, chin, power and strength ... Rocky stops him.
And was more defensively responsible than people care to remember. Different ball game with those smaller gloves.
I truly believe Beterbiev would outclass him in every facet of the game. This wouldn't even be close.
