Better defense Pernell Whitaker or Floyd Mayweather

Mayweather is a better defender, but Pea was harder hit. Pea is much much better offensively and overall.

 

The answer to this question depends on how you define defense. If you include Mayweather's countering ability as defense than he wins. If you are asking solely about the ability to make his opponent miss it's Pea.

Mayweather's uses blocking, slipping, spacing and countering in his defense. Pea relies mostly on movement to make you miss. Floyd however changes his opponent's offense with his countering ability. His opponents curtail their attack and end up throwing fewer punches than usual. All of this essentially means that overall Floyd takes less damage in a fight. Pea doesn't counter as well as Floyd because his dodging sometimes pulls him out of position for the counter.

Pea is harder to hit, but Mayweather takes fewer shots and less damage. Opponents get to Pea when he is attacking. Mayweather just doesn't offer his opponents many openings in 3 minutes of any round.

 

Sweet Pea is the number one for sure. I personally have Mayweather right behind him at number two. Then Loche of course.

 

Floyd is slightly better because he is more well rounded and as someone previously said deters his opponent from attacking effectively via countering. It all surmounts to taking less damage and thus is the better defence.

 

Floyd is a lot multi-dimensional than pea.

Whitaker's D was more flashy; there to be seen; eye catching...Floyd is more techinal...more effective, imo...

 

Pea was more dynamic but Mayweather is more economical.

He was clearly ATG in other aspects, his defensive skills were a thing of beauty
