BeestonBrawler - thinks Hattons got better footwork than Calzaghe! Is he taking the ****? Hatton ain't got no footwork, hes got the most predictable style i think I've ever seen.. If he had got footwork why the **** did he land head first onto a ring post????
Because he was helped on the way by the best boxer in the world with a punch. Difficult for the footwork of Hatton to look good against Mayweather who's feet were always in the perfect place to counter Hatton on the way in. However, to answer your original question, it's certainly Calzaghe with the better footwork out of the two. Although there were times when Calzaghe was caught in poor positions.
Calzaghe no doubt. Have to say though, Hatton's footwork is perhaps a bit overlooked and not that bad....it's more his glass chin and total lack of smarts and skill that have seen him come a cropper.
I, personally really like Hatton's style of footwork and weaving, he just tends to lunge too much. Haven't really noticed Calzaghe's too much.
Hatton's footwork really is excellent. The problem is that he either lunges in wildly - see Mayweather round 10 or the entire Lazcano fight...... or smothers his own work - see late rounds of Collazo or early rounds of Mayweather for that. The way he cuts off the ring is first class, IMHO. Calzaghe's is still very good of course, but Hatton wins in that department.
When does mayweather make a routine of sending fighters in to ring posts!! Hatton made that punch happen from chasing Floyd round the ring with his **** footwork Hattons good at chasing fighters to the ropes, but once he gets to them what does he do? Hatton ain't got good footwork for a boxer - maybe for a "wrestler", coz hes quick and knows how to grapple you up!!! If he had good footwork for a boxer, he would stay on the outside and box, and have some defence! not run you down and grab you up
Nah i don't agree!!!! For a boxer hes got sh*t footwork. You Can have skills like mayweather, but if you got footwork like hatton you ain't getting nowhere.... Hes too eager, see when he was getting backed up by Pacquiao, he didn't know what to do...... his style can only do one thing, an thats come forward!
Yet he didn't have the skills of Mayweather and was the top of his division for 4 years with his footwork? :think Hatton has good footwork - deal with it.
:rofl:nutJesus Christ! As I said yesterday, I agree with Beeston as well and put Hatton in my list of British boxers with the best attributes under footwork:good.
hatton cuts the ring off better than anyone on his day, using footwork... calzaghe also has good footwork as seen in the jeff lacy fight, using his feet to find angles to set up combinations.... imo i think hatton has better footwork
I'd put Hatton second only to Calzaghe of recent British boxers in this department. Calzaghe's is a little bit better when you consider his size. Watch him against Kessler, watch how he used it to take the jab away. Hatton's is good though. He gets hit a lot not because of his footwork but because he seems unable to keep his hands above his chin, probably because he's looking for the body rather than working an opening, and because he never jabs his way in.
Calzaghes slightly better. Hatton often had excellent footwork and balance but a low boxing intelligence.
