That debatable. Of course the big difference is that Lewis won against V.K. while Holyfield lost the trilogy against Bowe. That said, I do agree that Holyfield fought slighter better comp than Lewis, but he did lose, more than he won, against both Lewis and Bowe.
If you bring the comparison between Lewis winning with Vitaly against Holy loosing the trilogy with Bowe, you should count that Lewis won on cuts only and fight could go either way (if there were no cuts) and preferred go for retirement instead give Vitaly opportunity for the rematch. Assuming Lewis was on decline and Vitaly just entered the high level, the possible trilogy could easily go in favour of Vitaly if such oppotrunity to fight 3x happened. In the other hand Holyfield had courage to fight Bowe 3x which lead to one of the best trilogies in boxing history.
to be honest i think people are making way too much of the bowe trilogy. a man that got beat by lewis in the amatuers and who bowe would not fight! he chickened out, he was told not to fight him. bowe didnt have a stellar record, its jus cos he was an american heavyweight champ. thats y people rate him so highly. i mean **** he was 29 when he fought and was losing both times to golota, and people make the excuse that he was an old bowe!??? holyfield took on a prime lewis and got whopped! lewis shades it just on the comp front i say.
I wouldn't say he was whopped, the first fight was scored a draw, the second even scored for Lewis was won with slight margin ... Holyfield was not in his prime at that time comparing to Lewis.
**** off! you must be a yank!! at least the rest of the world and HBO crew admitted holyfield got beat that night. go to bestofbritishboxing on youtube and watch and also on youtube watch the post HBO vids on post holy - lewis 1. Seriously **** off. after all the post fight vids and after watchin the fight it was corruption that earnt holy the draw. man you've gone against 99.9% of the 6 billlion population of planet earth. that female judge was payed man!! and had no excuse, harrold even said WTF!???????
I don't know if you're an idiot or just biased. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say the latter. Firstly Lewis won against a prime Vitali. end of story. Cuts have been part of boxing since inception and Ali for one won many a fight on cuts. Nobody discounts these wins. Secondly he was 37 when he won so comparing a trilogy at the age Lewis fought Vitali verses when Holyfield fought Bowe is nuts. When Holyfield was Lewis age his trilogy was against Ruiz not Bowe. And yes, kudo's to Holyfield for fighting Bowe, it was a very gutsy performance, as was Lewis' win over Vitali.
The draw was BS and you're actually the first poster to every say anything different. The fight was about 9-3 in Lewis's favour. The second fight most had it 8-4 Lewis some 7-5, very few had it a tie or Holyfield winning. So it was about a 17-7 outcome in favour of Lewis. Even if the official scorecards are used I believe it would be about 14-10 in Lewis' favour but that includes the complete B.S. decision in the first fight. A fight it appears you never even saw.
I'm going to go with Lennox. Two fights with Holyfield (although past his best was still tough) two fights with McCall and Rahman who were both solid contenders, then fights against Bruno, Tua, Mercer, Briggs, Mason who imo was a pretty good fighter. Wins over Tyson who while being way over the hill still had KO power with both hands, win against peak Vitali Klitschko, then wins against Golota, Morrison, Ruddock and Tucker make up a resume that has as much depth as anyone in history for the HW division. Tyson fought a lot of good fighters but didn't have the number of wins against quality oppontants like Lewis. Wlad still has quite a way to go but with fights against Povetkin, Haye, and then maybe Chageav would put him pretty high. Holyfield is close to Lewis as well. Two fights against a dangerous Tyson, 3 against Bowe, 2 against Lewis put his resume up there with anyone.
