Even with a 70/30 split Calzaghe would make more money than he's ever made in a fight. Plus it's Hopkin's belts that are on the line, not Calzaghe's. If this fight hits a big mark on PPV's Calzahge might make more than he's earned in his entire career.

Indeed, Sky's new viewers for the Hatton/Kostya Tzsyu fight in Manchester in 2005 was around 260,000, indicating that there is a clearly a high demand from the public for Calzaghe. Now I know we're not comparing like for like here but this clearly shows that Joe has some clout and Kessler was unheard of to the general everyday fan before the fight. Hopkins is known. Calzaghe vs Hopkins has a potential to sell a hell of a lot and a shitload of that will be down to the fact that Joe will be in the ring. 300,000 in the UK is proportionately a lot more than 305,000 in the US. 300,000 in the UK PLUS 305,000 in the US = a ****load of money all round. It would be crazy if this fight wasn't made.

We don't know which wt this might be fought at. It makes more sense to have it at 168 where Joe is the man. This would give Bernard a crack at a third wt division. And Bernard is NOT the only champion nor even the best at 175. That's your take on what's fair. Joe is undefeated and at this point, a very big draw. 50-50 is fair. This is the same Bernard who out priced himself against Jones. You have stated that it was both guys faults. Maybe , but IMO, more Bernard's. The proposed multi fight deal with Showtime in 2002 involved a 3 fight deal for $6million which involved fighting Harry Simon and Joe Calzaghe. I personally think he was being offered less than those fights were worth at that stage of negotiations, as he was getting about $3million just to fight Morade Hakkar and Simon and Calzaghe while not huge names were both very dangerous and underrated fighters at that time. I don't know the details of what happened either, maybe someone else can enlighten us. I personally think a 60/40 split is fair considering Calzaghe needs this fight more than Hopkins. Hopkins ATG status is secure while I think Calzaghe's status is still underrated due to his lack of elite opposition.

Calzaghe, I guess, is considered a legend, a supernatural and an ATG in Europe but not in America. What is the Euro legend going to do about it? Try to beat up an American ATG on his home turf or go for his 77th title defence in Wales.
