Tyson is not good on the inside at all. He's not great, Bowe is far better than him there.

Bowe is great at infighting... & especially considering his superheavyweight size, his close-range combat skills are truly jaw-dropping.

i thought he did some decent body work against taller opponents on the inside. not spectacular but a bit underrated in that department

His crippling, rib-breaking body work was far more than decent in Ruddock II. :!:

To all that love to belittle Jack Dempsey nowadays by bringing up his losing 4 round bouts to Willie Meehan, your arguement is silly. I venture to say that EVERY great Heavyweight ,coming up the ranks, were BEHIND after FOUR rounds ,fairly often. EVERYONE. But naysayers,I see through that specious ploy. That is why fights are scheduled for 12-15 rounds, rather than 4 round bouts. Willie Meehan was almost impossible to hurt in 4 round bouts, and his awkwardness posed a problem to anyone for 4 rounds.
P.S. Even in a 100 yard Olympic dash, the winner is behind for awhile before he get's to the finish line...Dempsey would have worn down Meehan surely, in a 15 round bout...

true bb. for the most part, the meehan posts are just gags because it's an anamoly for such an all time great to struggle, consistently, with someone like meehan. in context the draws/loses don't hurt him that bad but those fights are still worth noting. especially for such a fast starter as dempsey.

looking at it differently, how come he could destroy willard in 3, Firpo in 2 but never got the better of meehan over 4?

Agree with most of what you said, however id like to point out, that Tyson was never behind on any scorecards up until the Douglas fight :good

Have you seen the one he lands on Douglas, Douglas doesnt even budge at all. You can tell Tyson hadnt trained for that fight., completely sloppy

J,you just answered your own question. Meehan could be ahead of Dempsey for 4 rounds, whilst a Willard of Firpo couldn't, was why MEEHAN was king of the 4 rounders. Why great punchers in history were behind in many of their bouts, until the final rounds til they caught up to the elusive boxers and kod them. The name of the game is who is ahead at the final bell, and all the rest is commentary.Cheers.
Every great fighter in history was behind after 4 rounds J. Why in heaven single out Jack Dempsey ?
