Mate us blokes from Australia arnt as bad as some think hehe..I follow boxing almost religiously. About Billy Dib, look hes a a good young boxer and i used to bag him out saying he'll never be anything more than the hussein brothers ( Good Solid Contenders)...get to the big stage fight the big fights but wont have that extra special something to win a world title. That was mainly due to the fact that they rarely fought outside Australia, where the level of competition is mediocre. The difference with Billy Dib is that he is fighting outside Australia and is getting alot of exposure in the U.S hes been sparring with Shane Mosley and the Prince i think. So its only going to make him that much better. The verdict is still out in the open about him but time is on his side, if he stays focused and sharpens up his skills, i think he might be able to win an alphabet title. We have yet to see his mental toughness & until we do, cant really say much. In saying that he is a very talented kid.
Can't really class Berto as a prospect anymore now that he has a belt, the most prestigous belt aswell in the toughest weight class. He really needs to step up his level of competition now.
I agree that he needs to step up in class to test himself, that's why I think he's still a prospect because he hasn't been tested!
I done a similar thread a few months back but our lists are very different! http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64000
Gamboa. Until he gets his title, he will be the biggest prospect, age notwithstanding. We should not penalize him for turning pro at a late age.
It is for the belt Alexander Munoz vacated when he fought mijares for the megachampion belt. I still do not understand this so mnay belt thing with the WBA except as a ploy to get more sanctioning fee.
Agreed Jaco. I don't really see what Mosley sees in him. I think all the attention from GBP has gotten to his head. He is a showboat and an embarassment to the Australian culture.
I currently live in Brisbane, but I'll be moving to Toowoomba later in the year (mainly for work). I got into the sport from a friend of my Mum's, when I was a teenager we used to go to his house and he'd always be watching boxing. My interest grew from watching legends of the 90's like Whitaker, Holyfield, etc and I eventually fell in love with the sport. Serious boxing fans are a rare sort in Aus, that's basically why I chose to discuss boxing on these forums. Out of the list Yuriorkis Gamboa has the greatest potential. :good
