First thing that came to mind.

And Tommy against Big George, turning his back and lumbering out of range...

Guillermo Rigondeaux did a lot of running himself, which turned a lot of people off

Exactly right, Flash. Calling fighters like Ali and Leonard runners is massively dismissive and inaccurate as well. It also seems to rest on one or two examples in high profile fights rather than their whole legacies, as you show well in your post.

Those who listed young Ali, Leonard and Whitaker are off base. All three were effective at moving and scoring, while shutting down the offense of the opponent. Even Howard Davis, Jr .does not qualify as a "runner." in my book. Like some others, I believe running is moving to survive, without landing sufficiently to outscore your opponent. I would say Bernard Taylor against Pedroza, even though he got a Draw, was guilty of running in that fight .He did settle down on his punches in some other fights.

I would expect some hardcore Mexican fans on YouTube to call Whitaker a runner, but not supposedly knowledgeable, objective fans on here.

I feel like Roger Mayweather deserves a mention here.

Some strange answers in here among some good ones.

I remember Tillis running pretty bad in the Weaver fight. Very poor effort.

Good call on Lonnie Smith. That is what I think of when someone mentions running. Just self preservation.
