That was a minor upset. My favorite part was Hopkins chanting "USA!! USA!! USA!!" on the ropes. Unforgettable atriot
my bad homie, NO disrespect. but everyone counted my man out & said he'd get KO'd. it doesnt help when all PR's disrespected b-hop calling him names, waving theyre flags around & the same time george foremans most biased commentary ever! it was more than "just a fight." it was PR vs USA (although we own PR) even after the fight there was still bad blood & i'm sure most PR's will never forgive b-hop for what he did. throwing another countrys flag on the floor (esp on theyre own turf) is the most "gangster" move i've ever seen in boxing pre hype, lol. to me, it didnt matter what country tito was from, so dont take it personal.
The first response was the best one... Tyson/Douglas will probably go down in history as the biggest upset.
No mention of Spinks/Holmes? I remember that day vividly. It was a Massive upset! Michael spinks one of the most underrated, supremely talented fighters. **Edit Spinks may not be underrated, you just dont hear about him much.
My post led me to rewatch all of Spinks/Holmes again. It was such an amazing upset. Here is Larry Holmes, ready to tie marciano's record a record setting night. Holmes was the big favorite super pumped up and prepared and here is Spinks moving up from LHW and still under the modern day cruiser Limit. Wow what an upset on one of the biggest nights in boxing history. If you havent seen this fight make sure you go watch it.
Spinks/Ali 1 Tyson/Douglas Tyson/Holyfeild Rachman/Lewis Hipp/Morrison...Not as big of an upset since Tommy did drugs, drank and barely trained in the lead up to their fight, but in terms of the difference in skill.
What Holmes said after the fight in an interview on HBO was classic. "U can kiss it where the sun don't shine. And that is my big black behind."
