billy showed his stuff against louis the first time lets say its the same conn this time (only he wont let his irish get to him like he did against joe)vs a different lewis as in lennox. what happens in this scrap?
Lewis in a boring one-sided near shut-out in what rapidly becomes a spar would be my guess. But it's impossible to say, really.
Conn's legs would have to be in peak condition as he could not afford to clinch with Lewis as he did with Louis. Conn's best chance is a Lewis DQ loss from punching him out from the clinch.
lenny lewis is no foreman or liston. yes he did destroyed big, slow hw's,but was cautios with smaller guys..
Conn has nothing to keep Lewis off him, and Lennox, being the smart guy that he is, will know this and push his advantage. The only way Conn wins is he he uses his fantastic foot/hand speed to upset Lewis' rythme. Which I could also see happening (though it's not as likely imo).
This reminds me of recently viewing Chris Byrd's fight with Jameel McCline. Byrd looked rather fragile when McCline put him under pressure but the big man had neither the mentality or the stamina to keep it up. The difference here is that Lewis does have it in him to "rush" Conn and rough him up I think. The fight was a horrible bore but could Byrd's run have been ended here if McCline were more vicious? no doubt lewis stops him early for me conn is just too small and gets badly out-gunned it is what it is
Lewis never fought a small mobile very skillful fighter such as Billy Conn. He never fought anyone close to that specification. And Conn never fought a giant, powerful, super-strong man of Lewis's dimensions. So, it's tricky to say how it ends up ....
Conn is getting underrated here. He was tough as nails and very fast. Having said that Lewis would get to him sonner or later.
I think this is a bit unfair on Conn. Lewis would destroy him , i wont say when because that would be up to Lewis. Hows about Joe Calzaghe vs Foreman?
Lewis just hits way too hard and is way too strong. Conn liked to spoil a bit-He moved and boxed and countered, but he often found his way in close a bit too often, and Lewis would either crush and deplete him in clinches, or manhandle him into uppercuts. I can't see Conn making it past the 4th round. Lewis doesn't have the arsenal or the speed Louis does, but I think his big right hand is probably just as, and most likely more powerful the Louis' own one punch killshot. The second Lennox finds Conn's chin with a fully extended right hand bomb ala Lewis-Botha or a well timed uppercut ala Lewis-Grant, its probably over.
