Billy Fox thought it was a fix, so did almost everyone else and the proof is out there. If LaMotta-Fox can't be proven to be a fix then neither can any other fight. It's about the most obvious fix in the history of boxing.
If Senya actually thinks Fox obliterated Lamotta by one sided knockout with no tank job, he must think Fox is an ATG Billy Fox, the ATG murderous puncher
Old W Welcome to ESB..I too am an "old timer "who saw all the fighters you mention above at old MSG...What memories your list brought to my mind.! Freddie Schott and Joe Baksi I used to see very often in Stillmans Gym in the late 1940s...Baksi was a big tough looking pole, strong but plodding, and handsome Lee Oma, with his Jimmy Slattery style fighting with his hands at his side..I saw them all including the rugged hard punching Gus Lesnevich, who I saw several times at MSG..Too bad Lesnevich fought at the same time as the great Ezzard Charles...Lesnevich who I saw the last time after he retired deparing from a truck he was driving in the garment district in New York not long before he died from a heart attack I believe..I hope Lesnevich does get in the boxing hall of fame.He deserved it...Nice to read your post for the memories it evokes...b.b.
Living on the L.E.S. of N.Y.C. since the early 80s. Usta see poor Billy pushing a shopping cart destitute.
This fight does not exist on film, yet another of those fights he has supposedly seen that doesnt exist. Adding to this discussion a bit, without having gone back and read all of the pages, Lamotta's initial excuse for his poor showing was that he entered the ring with a damaged spleen (I believe that was it, or something similar) and thats why he performed so poorly. Later he changed his story when he finally admitted throwing the fight to say that he was asked to throw the fight and since he knew he had to lose he simply went into the fight injured (his spleen) and the injury itself resulted in his poor performance and loss, hence had he really wanted to win he would have called it off. Later he changed his story again, admitting that he simply tanked the fight. Ive seen Fox in two fights and hes not as bad as you would imagine. Just not as good as his record suggested.
Couple other points: Some have debated how much Joey knew, you guys have to remember that Joey was Jakes "manager of record" Jake acted as his own manager and often times his own promoter. Joey was simply a front for that so Jake could keep as much of his money as possible without having to pay 30% You should read Dan Parker's coverage of the fight and resulting controversey.
I really don't get the point of claiming to have seen fights that you haven't actually seen, unless you have confused them with another fight or something.
